GP shift **** in a Countryman?

hi folks,

I picked up a GP shift **** and boot at a good price and would like to fit it into our CM JCW when it arrives(my wife LOVES the red face of the GP ****!). Just wondering if anyone has done this before?

I now the base where the boot fits in each car is different, but I'm wondering if it can be made to fit easily.....

thanks!

Jeff

The **** should fit no problem, but I don't know about the boot. Is the GP boot any different than the JCW boot? They both look like red stitching on black leather(ette?) to me.

I think they are different. the GP boot is a narrow circle at the bottom, and the CM seems to me to be a little wider at the bottom. Since I don't have our CM yet, I didn't realize the **** is attached to the boot. My idea was to just leave the CM JCW boot in place and just replace the ****.

That's why I was hoping someone has replaced their stock CM **** with something else(GP or otherwise). I assume the CM boot is attached to the **** as well? So, there has to be a way to disconnect the two from each other, I just can't figure it out...

thanks.

You'll have to separate the boot from the **** with a bit of prying. Turn the boot inside out. I used a letter opener and worked my way around with gentle prying. Then use the GP **** with your CM boot. It's difficult to get them apart. I think they must glue the boot to the ****. Anyone who changes their shift **** has to go thru this. I fitted the JCW ****.

Ah, I see. So, if you don't mind, can you tell me how you adhered the existing boot in the car to your new JCW ****?

thanks.

The shift **** has a collar. Just slide the collar of the boot over the **** collar and it will stay in place. Once you take one apart, you'll see. I didn't use any glue and I don't think it is necessary. It will be a heck of a lot easier to change out the **** if I want to do it again at some point. Although I'm very happy with the JCW ****!

To remove the boot and ****, first remove the boot trim ring. It just snaps into the console. Then unsnap the boot from the console. Then straddle the gear shift and pull straight up using two hands. There are entire threads on NAM how to do this. Some peeps had major difficulty getting this done, including black eyes. Mine came off with an abrupt pull using the two handed stump pulling technique.

Great mod, yea you can pop the **** off from the boot, the boot part on the GP 2 **** if more narrow then the countryman boot.

R60 JCW Countryman Shift **** and boot that is above. Part number 25119808704

There is a JCW Shift **** and boot for the countryman, but if you like the GP 2 Red top **** , you can use the **** portion. Its talked about in this thread when someone brought it up.

Here are some more pictures of the JCW GP 2 Shift **** w/ Boot

Post up some pics of the GP 2 **** in one of your Countrymans.

Thanks

Thanks ECS!

great info. Right, so I just have to figure out how to separate the boot that came attached to the GP2 **** from it, then separate the boot from the current **** in the CM JCW, then pop the GP2 **** onto the existing boot in the CM JCW.

someone mentioned using something like a letter opener or small flat head driver to pry the boot from the ***** in both cases...

What I don't know is how to adhere the CM JCW boot to the GP2 ****. Someone mentioned you just slide it up in place and it does not require anything else....it does not fall down.

Just want to make sure I don't jack up the look of our ride as soon as we get it

In my 2012 there wasn't any glue holding the boot to the **** and it stayed on fine. The top of the boot just snapped over a little lip on the ****. I don't think they changed designs, but I can't say for sure.

I know the GP2 shift **** has is little glue on the boot / **** connect but it can come off. If the JCW countryman **** is like the stock ALL4 shiftknob / boot your ok for a quick switch. If the JCW Countryman **** / boot has little glue on it, it will be like the GP 2 ****/ boot, its like the glue you use for redoing sagging headliner on BMWs is what its reminds me of, and separates wit some work.

Thanks
