I was killing some time last night and I was curious what the treadwear was on my Kuhmo's...DAM! I knew they were sticky but didnt realize the treadwear was 50 lol. So what tires are yall running on the street? After doing some digging I see some people are getting 2 and 3k miles out a set.

Im considering buying another set of rims with street tires and use the kuhmos for autox or the track.

Any suggestions?

Pilot supersports are a popular option. I personally like the Dunlop Z2.

 

Are you guys running stock size or something else like 215/45/17? If running 215/45/17 then did you lower the car? I wanna see how much lowering can be done before rubbing starts kicking in.

 

It will depend on your offset as to how much rubbing you get. With a 215/45/17 you could go pretty low but the handling would suffer as you're getting into the "bad" parts of the camber curve in the front and rear if you lower too much.

We're running a 235/40/17 Dunlop Z2

 

I am all stock right now. I am hoping to use 215/45/17 Yokohama A048 after I finish with the Kumhos. Those tires are pretty bulky as well so not sure if there's another space to avoid rubbing. 235 is too wide for my likings.

 

Super Sports on mine. Pulled the Kuhmos off and saving for a track day. No problems, still gets plenty of grip on dry days. Don't drive my GP in the rain if I don't have to.

I loved the PSS on my CTSV so that will probably be my next set. My current dilemma is what to do with these kuhmos. I hate to waste them on the street just playing around when they would be the better option for the track but it seems a bit excessive to mount/unmount them on my GP wheels every event. Ideal would be to have a second set of GP wheels but that would prob be next to impossible to find at a reasonable price im guessing.

Why do you need a separate set of GP wheels? You can pick up some cheaper Motegis from Tire Rack for like $130 each. Or get something used off the forums. They're just track wheels...

 

+1. I wouldn't go to the expense of a second set of GP rims for track use. I'm actually borrowing another set from someone with a R56 Challenge car when I want to run the Kuhmos.

 

I wouldn't exclusively run the Kuhmos on the track and I personally like to keep the current look on the car but like I stated earlier the odds of me finding GP wheels at a decent price are next to none so this is the route I'll more than likely go.

 

Why are people using 205/45/17 on their stock GP wheels when they are 7.5 inches wide which will then expose more of the wheel lip for damages? Why not use 215/45 or 215/40 instead?

Are the Kuhmos available for purchase if one decided to go back with them? I'm seeing the Ecsta XS but not the V700.

 

You can but TireRack doesn't have the mini's size. I thought the V700s were being phased out. I guess Kumho is making a special run for the GP2.

If you're looking for something similar I would go with the R888.

You could go with something else but other tires (like the RA1) like a little more camber than the stock GP2 is able to provide. So I think the R888 might be the best option for a replacement tire. They come in 215/45/17.

 

Anyone tried Yokohama ADVAN A048?

 

Couldn't get 215's in PSS when I was looking right as the GP was released.

 

Yes I've had these on a couple MINI's and they are great and super sticky

 

Would these tires in 215/45/17 fit on a stock GP at the highest suspension setting with no rubbing? They look bigger than most tires at the same size spec.
