So here's the story, ordered by car on July 1, came in on October 19th, picked it up 3 days ago, Wednesday at 6pm. Drove it 130 miles. Went out to lunch on Thursday when I was headed back to work and a woman blew right through a stop sign at the end of the ramp, crossed my path about 20 feet in front of me, I was doing about 30 at the time. I jammed on the brakes to avoid her and in the process ended up skidding sideways directly into the guard rail. Turned around to see her take off, so I jumped over my passenger (my door was pinned shut by the guardrail), Ran up the road to chase after her when a woman traveling the opposite direction of me who was also cut off, picked me up and we found the woman in a gast station parking lot. After several minutes of screaming I called the police and they cam and arrested her, charing her with failure to obey a stop sign and evading responsibility. Got a ride from another cop back to the scene where it took 2 hours and 2 tow trucks to get my car out of the guardrail. My car is uttuerly totaled, 2 gutter posts slashed right through my engine after bending the crap out of the frame. So, I had been waiting for my beauty for just shy of 4 months and had her for a grand total of 18 1/2 hours, taken from me by some oblivious jerk. I have no idea when I will be able to get a new one.
So it turns out that the woman was from Cali, her passenger was from NJ, that car was rented at Bradley airport in CT from a company in MN, and this entire mess happened in Old Saybrook, CT.

That sux...but you lived to talk about it...find a 2003 S at a dealer
when insurance pays. This message from Florida, where a green light
means....look left..look right...then proceed with extreme caution.

Whoa!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

You are all alone on the road in that you cannot trust anyone else. Not even the cops. Cops are always breaking the laws they are supposed to uphold.

I hope I can trust other MINI drivers around my baby, but you're going to have to earn it.

Hi Storer,

Sorry to hear about your accident.

It's probably a good idea to go get a medical check up to see whether you sustained any injuries (It seems like your accident was very violent). A friend of mine was rear-ended on the expressway several years ago, and is just now getting recurring back and neck pains. It is probably be a good idea to report any pains or possible ailments to your insurance company so that it is documented somewhere; therefore, should you require costly treatment in the future, your insurance company (or the maniac who ran you off the road) might be able to pay for it.

Feel better soon  !

Thanks everybody, I appreciate your supprt, I did go to the ER, my back is definitely pretty screwed up, was told by the doc that I had massive back spasms and that it was pretty much out of the ordinary to have them so soon.

I was in touch with my insurance agent, the idiot's insurance company, the police, my lawyer, yada yada yada. Also spoke to my dealer, said he would bump me up in the order to #7, should be able to get a new MINI by January, but until then I can only dream about the wonderful 130 miles I spent with Coop, what a fantastic vehicle, and I'll tell you what, if I had been driving a different vehicle, I can almost promise the driver of the other car would be dead. She was driving a Daweoo hatchback, aluminium and fiberglass piece of ****. I still have no idea how I avoided her.

Anyway, thanks again, hopefully I'll be motoring soon.

Hey Chris,
As others have already echoed my sympathy...I'll tell you that 8 years ago I was in a very similar accident. A woman failed to stop at a sign, and then turned right into my lane. We met head-on. I had my son with me at the time, he was 1 &1/2. We both walked away with minor cuts. The lady had been drinking, and claimed her brakes failed to operate. My vehicle was eventually replaced, but it mattered not in the least to me. I love my Coop as you did yours..but the things of this world, will always remain, in this world. I thank God you are still with us, and know that you'll treasure the next Coop just as much.
Jim

Storer glad you are ok. Sorry to hear about your car. My MINI was sandwiched by a van friday, hit so hard in rear pushed into car in front. Rear damage and significant front damage. I think totaled is better at least you can start over. Monday I have to try to get this mess put back together. Beware of those not concentrating on driving and those gawkers looking at your MINI.

So sorry to hear about that. I am glad that you are getting everything sorted out quickly, and that no one was more hurt. Any more details about how your MCS spun and got into the guard rail? I am interested to find out why DSC did not keep you on a straight path. Reason I ask is because I am contemplating if I should get DSC on an MC or not. I have never had it before so not sure if it will ever be needed.

Hope everything gets sorted out quickly for you.

Kenny

Glad you are relatively ok, how about your passenger? I hate to think that you experienced a personal crash test, but it sounds like your Coop saved you! Here's to a speedy recovery and sitting in the cockpit of another Mini ASAP!

Storer - I'm so sorry to hear your story! What a jerk she was/is. I'm so glad you're ok though. Great job in running the lady down - make her pay and live up to her responsibility. I'm glad you were able to catch up to her. Hopefully she'll get what's coming to her in both the civil and legal courts.

So sorry to hear about poor Coop.

I'm sorry for your loss, But on a more selfish note: There are several of us racer types out here that would like to get the opportunity to buy a rebuildable MINI to make into a race car. If your ins. co. desides to total your car you might be able to buy the "wreck" from them and then sell it to Me or another racer. you can reach me at crashkarl@aol.com

Storer-

I agree with everyone else, life before Mini, but what a horrible story! I'd send flowers if I could, hopefully your new Coop (Coop II?) will come in nice and quick. Hang in there! And I have a firm belief that there should be mandatory drivers tests every 2-4 years, its amazing how little people know about traffic laws. I mean, if you're lost, okay, you're allowed to be in the wrong lane and jerk over, but running stop signs, that kind of stuff... inexcuseable. I think our traffic systems are ideal for a citizenship if SMART people, but since most drivers aren't, we're in trouble. Why do you think they keep LOWERING the speed limits? People can't handle driving fast! An 85 mph traffic flow is a perfect speed, as long as noone's tailgating, everyone uses their signals, and just enjoys themselves, y'know? Oh well. Hope you got a chance to give Coop a hug before they hauled her away... :???: :???: :???: :???:

Storer--sorry to hear of it, and glad that you seem to be okay. The months will pass quickly and you'll be back in the driver's seat.

I look at the bright side--you'll still have a spanking new MINI in the end and be motoring happily down the road. (I'd much rather that than just having someone seriouly bend it and have that grating on you for the rest of your ownership.)

I'm really happiest to hear, though, that you caught her. It's nice to know that she'll get hers in the end.

Rest up & take care of that back. That's the important bit. And let us know when the new one comes in.

Jeff

This is a problem! The DSC is NOT an automatic pilot people! If one is forced to make a quick, violent manuever, the DSC will not help. The DSC does NOT have eyes. It can't see WHERE you want to go. All it does is monitor how much you turn the wheel and if the car is heading to where it should based on the input from the steering wheel! If you have to swerve like Storer did to avoid an accident, the DSC WILL NOT prevent the MINI from hitting something such as a guardrail!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

MAJOR BUMMER!!!

So since you now have to reorder...were there any options you didn't get the first time that you can now order this time? (trying to make this into a positive spin)

Kenny, thanks for the kind words. Actually, the entire reason I ended up in the guard rail and not the idiot's car is due to the DSC. Had I skidded out of control, I would've ended up halfway through the Daewoo. In was able to steer amazingly in control after I slammed on the brakes, if I had about 15 more feet between myself and the guard rail, I'm pretty sure I would have been avle to pull her back around. I had less than 2 lanes width to stop... not enough for any car I'm afraid.

P.S.
SCREW ALLSTATE, THOSE IDIOTS ARE ALREADY MAKING MY LIFE HELL, TRYING TO PROSESS A CLAIM AGAINST ONE OF THEIR POLICY HOLDERS IS A NIGHTMARE!!! :???:
