drivers side axle removal

I am pulling trans to put in a new clutch kit, but after following Pelican instructions, I removed the dust seal from the passenger side and have that axle removed. The instructions say to remove the dust seal from the drivers side and remove the axel. I can't see any dust seal. The CV joint is real close to the transmission and the axle won't just pull out. How do I remove the axle?? It is a 2006 r53.

Thanks in advance!

just pull harder. or use a lever like a crow bar and pop it out of the trans turn and push turn and push... i had to take the cv joint out when i did mine and just dropped the trans with the cup still in the trans. but i also chnaged the boot too because i needed to. your going to have to find some kind of clamp when you put the boot back on if you do take it off.

So there is not a dust seal or anything to release on the drivers side? Just clarifying before I pull like crazy...

I just finished doing a tranny swap on an 03 R50. Passengers side was easy and the drivers side gave me so many fits trying to get it out. I tried prying it out, but that seemed to just bend the metal cover over the seal. Personally I found just pulling on it, and hitting it with a deadblow/rubber mallet works the best. It really is in there pretty well.

And as a quick note, when putting it back in, dont hit on the rubber CV joint like i did, i ended up slicing the rubber a bit and its started flinging goo around the engine bay :\

Ok I have the trans out now. I just left the driverside axle attached and it worked fine. Now to replacing the clutch.

Are you putting in the Valeo single-mass kit?

I haven't investigated replacements much yet, but was thinking of going with a Luk brand from Pelican. It says Luk is the OEM supplier?

Hmmm..., I may be mistaken, but I thought Valeo was the oem supplier that made the origional dual mass unit. In either case, good luk (pun intended). ::smile

Well, I think you're right. Luk makes OEM clutch.

I wonder where I heard it was Valeo?

On ECStuning website, the one that says brand "genuineMINI" and the one that says brand "Luk" both have the exact same Mfg#
