Getting streaming metadata with Y-cable?

2012 Coupe w/ Y-cable, no nav. iPhone 5. Streaming apps include Slacker (far, far better than Pandora), MLB At Bat, TuneIn Radio, FIT Radio, Amazon Cloud Player.

When my iHpne is connected and it's playing MP3 files from the device, the track shows in the display on the dashboard. When my Sirius was active (should I call and try to get that complimentary lifetime subscription?), the tracks names would show in the display. Track names changes as new tracks are played.

When I'm using a streaming app, the track that's playing when I start the app appears on the display. And it never changes, even as I listen to track after track after track.

I'm guessing that the iPhone itself sends that data to the head unit when it is connected and is playing so it can be displayed, and the apps don't, which would mean it is the fault of the apps (whose developers may have never considered this as a use case). Is my assumption correct, and would it be possible for streaming apps to send that metadata to the head unit so that its display is updated every time the track changes?

I've never tried using steaming apps with my non-nav y-cable setup, but I will say that I had the same issue with song titles not updating when my aftermarket y-cable started to fail. Eventually, my iPod wasn't recognized at all (even though aux and charging still worked). Maybe it's a problem with your y-cable?
