Tire Pressures at Track?
Tire Pressures at Track?
I'll be heading to the track for my first track day in another month and I thought I'd get people's feedback re tire pressure. First some details....
My car is an '06 cabriolet. It's got the full JCW package which includes engine, exhaust, brakes, front tower brace, and LSD. I believe that cabriolets couldn't be equiped from the factory with JCW suspension, so I'm sure it's the sport suspension that all S models got. I'm running the original factory springs, shocks and roll bars. It's got the Getrag 6 speed and full areo kit as well. I'm also going to put some new Centric Powerslots on the front with Hawk HPS pads. (I've been running the HPS pads for a long time now, but on drilled and slotted JCW rotors.) And, of course, I'll be changing all fluids including brake and clutch fluid.
The tires are 215/40-18 Hankook Ventus V12's on JCW wheels. I normally run 38 front, 36 rear.
The track will be Searspoint and I'll be running with the Cobra club. The weather could be mild to hot, probably hot as the track day is the first weekend in August.
So what suggestions can y'all make regarding tire pressure?
Thanks!

Your 38 front and 36 rear is probably a good place to start good/cool for the track. Check pressure after your first session to see what the pressure raises to. If in the 44 psi range you are probably pretty good. I also usually run 38/36 on the street.
I have only done Auto-X with my 215/40-18 Hankook V12s, I find that the tires need a lot of air because the sidewalls tend to bend under (soft sidewall). I run 44 to 46 psi in front and about 39 in rear for Auto-X.
