Just bought an 02 Cooper with everything except cruise. I found a local wrecking yard with an 03 Cooper S with Cruise. Blown airbag in steering wheel. Wondering if it is possible to pull the components off this car and fit to mine (knowing that Mini Dealer will eventually have to turn on the function of cruise). I can get the complete multi funtion steering wheel and neck (with all wires), but know I need the wiring, control box, etc. They will let me have free access to pull anything I want and the dash is fully exposed already and the steering wheel with slip ring is laying in the front seat. On question is the slip ring still OK with a blown airbag?

I figure I can follow the wiring at times, but some of it looks buried in looms. Is this an impossible task?

From what I understand, its crazy difficult and expensive, but not impossible.

 

When the cars were new....dealers REFUSED to add cruise....they would just reorder the car even if you offered to pay....guess if time is no object it is possible....sure it has been done...

Looks like you just need to add the buttons and code the ECU with the retrofit.
