when should you upgrade the intercooler?

I just ordered my alta intake and I have a 15% pulley on my R53 I plan on doing an exhaust and upgrading the ignition and than tuning it, but when is it necessary to upgrade an intercooler?

There's never a bad time to upgrade it really. The GP intercooler is the best alternative, unless you want to spend more on the DoS or something else.

Only the gp is proven to be better...others are compromises...
In all honesty...the sc is not a big power gain in a gen1....$$ per HP...it is at the bottom of the list.

Most sellers like Outmotoring, WMW, etc, usually have them listed.

Yes you def want to go with the GP intercooler, fits perfect and works great too. We found it more efficient than most aftermarket ones.

I have a GP intercooler and noticed heat soak isnt as bad at idle and cools off rather quickly. Seems highly efficient too, no pressure drop at all.

This is probably a dumb question but do you use the stock boots with the gp intercooler or no.

I used the stock boots on mine. The horns on it are exactly like the stock one. If you look at it off the car it literally looks like they cut and added a couple of extra rows at the top. I got mine for when it is really hot out to get rid of heat soak easier when moving. Worked as advertised.

Be sure to get the go diverter to go with the ic.... Or those extra cooling rows in the ic will not be expo's d to the cooling air....

Alta couplers are a ***** to install tho. Unless your boots are old and start to crack, I would keep the oem ones.
