Precise Number of GPs Still Available
I put my son to work on an interesting fathers day project. As of yesterday, I believe there are 212 left. See the following for a dealer by dealer breakdown-

Sorry for lack of clarity. Number shown is current inventory, not sales.
Assuming that you are right and it's not the same, it tells me that bmw underpriced the GP1. From pretty much all that I've read, and experienced, the GP2 is a badass car... just may have been priced a bit high. The numbers also tell me that it is likely a good time for someone to get a nice price... thus remedying the only significant issue with this car... the price!
Do you have any sales data for the GP1 to show how it's 'not the same'?

Not sure what you mean by that. It took quite a few months for the GP1's to sell out.

If you are getting this information from the the dealers inventory list online I do not believe it is accurate. I was told by the sales manager at my local dealership that current inventory shown online does not differentiate between cars which have been ordered by a customer and those on the lot for sale. A good test would be to visit or call the dealer to see if the GP is actually on the lot for sale. I would be very surprised if 208 GP2's are sitting on dealer lots.
You're list isn't entirely accurate but your overall number is pretty close to accurate
Countrywide there are around ~200 unsold GP's
Just goes to prove that the R53 GP's are probably always going to hold their value better than the R56 GP. I'd venture to say they will be sitting on dealer lots for quite a while.

Kind of strange that these number 'prove' anything about hold value... don't see the logic there... Also, is there a completion with the GP1? Isn't that kind of like saying that a new corvette sucks because the 67' was awesome Nd collectible? It's a totally different car... not really all that similar. I think you logic is strange.
As for the 'sitting on lots' comment... Don't you think it's about business? If a car, iPhone or cabbage patch kid sells out in days, the marketing director should be fired. BMW is interested in making money... it's a business. Maximumization of revenue is a key part of making profit. Selling 60% of inventory after 2 months is not quite 'sitting on the lot'.
I guess all expert reviews, and my personal review, must be wrong. My car sucks! But... I kind of like it
Kudos for an excellent father-son project for Fathers Day. I'm sure this was an experience your son will remember.
R53 GP sales rates were very similar. It took nearly a year for all of them to find owners.

Care to say why my numbers are inaccurate? Where do your more accurate numbers from?

I'm not trying to argue about re-sale...just pointing out that people don't seem to really be "desiring" the GP2. There are other threads about the re-sale so sorry I brought it up here.
As far as my info...I work for MINI and can pull up the entire inventory in the nation.
The GP1 was tough to get ahold of when it came out. It was definitely desired. Not everyone liked it, but it was much tougher to get one. I couldn't.
There were 2 or 3 (one MIGHT have been sold) at my dealer a couple of weeks ago. That simply did not happen with the gen1. They still may be there. An MA said it was a different ball of wax this time--previously, you had to get on a list, this time, you can walk right up and get one.

There were also almost 100 less to start with.
Aside from the intial run of people who ordered them, and a few people that purchased shortly after they were released....we've had almost zero activity on GP2's since.
There is no such GP! They are all standards.
Will attempt to clear up a few things here:
1) MINI of Baltimore does not have #1 of 2000. All 2013 GP's have same badge which says "1 of 2000". The 2013 GP was being sold in Europe for several months before they became available US. In the US, they are numbered 0001 through 0500. US 0001 was already sold, and is privately listed on AutoTrader with a ridiculous markup.
2) GP is manual transmission only. You may have seen a JCW (which recently began offering automatic transmissions) but it definitely was not a GP.
3) There is one less GP on the market as of last Saturday, now in my garage

I did think it was a little odd first that THE #1 was still available and in Baltimore no less and that second, the dealership had it sitting outside, but never took the time to inquire about it, just admired the beauty of it.
Congrats! So did you actually get to test drive it before you purchased?
Yes, was fortunate to be able to test drive before purchase. I have a long standing relationship with the dealership, and they knew I was a serious buyer, otherwise it probably wouldn't happen.
Good news, the car does deliver fantastic handling. You won't be disappointed.
