JCW R59 Owners..... whats your gas mileage like?

Ok its been 3500 miles since I purchased my most awesome R59

I am averaging 26.6-28 MPG...... this is aweful.

Love the car.... but is this what you all are getting?

My R55 Clubman S would get 32MPG all day long.

If it makes you feel any better, I am getting 25.9MPG in a Justa. LOL
Though, my mileage is all from city driving. And I go WOT whenever I can. :P

Out of all the combinations of JCW & Cooper S I've owned my N18 Cooper S is by far the least economical. The best I get is 33mpg which is barely better than my old 2L turbo Audi TTS!

FWIW -

'13 Cooper Roadster - over 13 fill-ups, all driving conditions: Max 37.7 mpg; Min 32.2; Avg 35.1 mpg

(The average is just slightly better (by < 1 mpg) than my '11 MCS w/N18.)

Really? The most I've ever gotten in my MCS Roadster on the highway is a little over 35 mpg on a 150 mile trip at 70-75 mph and that was the ECU reading which is reportedly high. Recently on a 900 mile round trip, which was mostly interstate driving with about 50 miles city driving mixed in, was 33.5 mpg. Half of that was with the top up and A/C on due to rain. The other half was with the top down and windows up but no A/C. How did you measure your 42.5 and what were the conditions?

Driving across I-80 in Utah. It's nice and flat, so I could get a straight reading. Driving from Boise to Salt Lake City, I go about 80 mph and get about 36 to 38, depending on the prevailing winds. This is all top up, of course. I was checking optimal mileage.

Driving to and from work, which mixes city and highway, I average 33 to 34.

I find I get better mileage at 70+ than I do at 60 to 65 for some reason.

With my 2011 r56 JCW I never got less than 30 MPG, that was a combination of short freeway and city driving. Th best highway I was able to get was from Dallas to Gslveston 42.8 MPG. That was on the computer and when I checked it out manually, same figures, almost to the tenth. The extremes on the highway close: 34.7 - 38.7 MPG. i was able to get into the 40's on about six occasions that I can remember.

Now, MCS r59 with the N18 with Asian Automatic. Same combination of freeway and city driving 23.6 - 26.8 MPG. Highway: 27.4 - 32.7 MPG, I was td how the N18 was suppose to be do economical. Wrong so far.

I use to get over 40 MPG quite regularly if I kept a steady gas pedal. MPG goes down fast when you change speeds a lot. That's the way it works with me, anyway.

I have a Roadster S. Mileage is not nearly as good or consistent as my Fiat 500 - However, the car is much more fun to drive. Here is what I have recorded in Trinity after 7,000 plus miles:
City Only Driving: 29 to 30 mpg
Mixed Driving and hill country highway: 30 to 34 mpg
Flat Highway: 34 to 38 mpg (Highest 41 mpg on a 50 mile trip)

FYI - I noted that my gas mileage typically goes down in colder temperatures.

That explains that I didn't intend for my post to come across sounding so douchey by the way, sorry about that

Sorry it's a blurry pic, but you can see the 509 miles until empty when I fill up my Justa!

Thats pretty good. Specially considering that it looks like you have the 17 inch rims with 205 45 17 tires.

How in the h**** are you getting that kind of mileage? I'm averaging 24+ city and 29+ on the road driving sensibly. With my old factory JCW I averaged 38+ on the highway with a couple of times in the 42 range. City was 29+ except in Winter with snow it dropped to the 26 level. This S sucks for mileage. Love the car, but very disappointed in the mileage. I should have sprung for the JCW, but tried to economize. That's what I get.

I don't know how WolfsBane gets that kind of mileage but I did make an improvement in mine. I always turned on my sport mode when I started the car and was getting 34-35mpg combined with about 75% highway. About a month ago I stopped using the sport mode all the time and now am getting 36-37mpg combined. I had previously tried a short test run to determine if the sport mode reduced mileage and concluded it didn't. I have now come to a different conclusion. Now I am only using the sport mode when I am interested in more spirited driving.

I have automatic transmission. I still do the same thing you used to - select Sport mode reflexively every time I start the car. I always assumed I was taking a small hit in gas mileage but . . . Man, that auto transmission is so much better in Sport Mode!

Just reviving this thread a little...

Over the last 7 months we've pretty much got consistent mileage between 26 and 27 mpg on average. The car does mostly small city like trips (hardly no highway) during the week and some longer trips on the weekends.
I don't know how everyone is getting such good gas mileage!??

My S averages 30-33 with combined city/highway and my foot to the floor at every stop sign. LOL. I have averaged 38mpg before driving economically, but that's no fun.

My car (S, driven "enthusiastically" as my daily driver) has been showing 29 to 30 average for ages.

I'm guessing even if one does a 1/3 highway that it must result in a nice difference on mpg
