Direct your parents to the following web page. It has the NHTSA crash test results for the MC and MCS. They both received four out of five stars in every category they were tested in.

NHTSA Mini Cooper/Mini Cooper S

Well my MCS just ate it in a big accident. Rearended by full size van. While it has sustained damage it was still driveable. Considering the impact the car held up well.

Say it isn't so, are you ok? Rear impacts can do a number on your body, that you don't feel for a day or two. Is the car going to be totalled?

Any advice of repair situation would be good.

Also check out Euro NCAP, it has the MINI. If you search the forums you will find a video of the Euro NCAP crash and more info on safety. I am 16, b-day May 5, and my car just got done with production! Can't wait!

Glad to hear it, just take it easy for a few days, as for the car, make sure it's repaired by a MINI dealer and no one else, accept nothing but genuine MINI parts for what needs to be replaced, I don't think there are any 3rd party suppliers of parts yet, but you never know.

I'm planning on going to MINI dealer. I'm concerned how long it will take to get parts. I don't believe there is any structural damage...hopefully.

It's pretty darn safe, a 4 star rating all around, but i would NOT suggest it be anyone's first car. Get a beater, save the cash.. you'll thank yourself later...

Besides the fact that you'll respect your MINI more if you pay for it yourself... go easy on Mom and Dad... they paid your way so far

Nice touch about saving Mom and Dad…, but there are responsible young drivers out there today. You and I (this is where I make you sound sooooo old) were young once. Because "you" may have done silly things as a new driver, doesn't mean this individual will.
Besides, it sounds like Mom and Dad are going to buy him a car. Why not make it MINI.

Responsible does not equal experience... that's my main reason.. you can be as responsible as the day is long, but it's your experience that's going to save you and your car...

More reason not to... give the young lad more than just a car, give him life's lessons...

You are a pretty lucky young driver if your "first" becomes a MINI. My "first" had more rust than paint, and no heater. That car taught me more than I can express in regards to appreciation. Good Luck!

Wow, i feel touched!!! I had 1 1/2 year of experience driving on "permit", and i want a mcs really bad because it's safe, and looks damn good outside heh... You can't imagine how many beemers, audis, and ford expeditions... (that's COMMON) so MINI looks GOOD among themselves. Plus i would love the crash test video of the mc/mcs thanks

Here is the direct link to the Crash Test Video. It on these forums, all you have to do is type in crash or crash video. Hope this helps. Personally, I can't wait til the IIHS (Address ) test results come up, their test are much better and more acurate. By the way, you can see most of the recent IIHS.org crash test video HERE.

When it comes to driving 1 & 1/2 years doesn't really count as experience... I had my first car for 3 years before (like i would guess most people) it was totaled... and not due to anything I did wrong, but I was in a situation that with a bit more experience under my belt would have kept me out of... of course you can now say, well, the MINI is safe, so wouldn't it be a good car to get totaled in? Sorry, $20,000 for a 'beater' (which is really what it'll turn into) is a bit silly to me...

I know, i gues i'm just an old fogey, but i'm at that good age to remember how much we all thought that we knew when were were teens, but old enough to realize how little it actually was, and how once you hit 21 or so, how many of the things you thought you knew change...

l33tn00b, get the MINI. The MINI is a great car and it probally will get a few bumps and dings but if you pay attention when you drive and don't drive like a maniac, the chances of the car getting totaled is the same as if you were 35 years old. My brother got a new BMW for his 16th b-day, had two small parking-lot related bumps, minor damage. Now, 3.5 years later, I am driving it til my MINI comes in. My sister got a Volvo at 16 and 2.5 years later still no accidents. Enjoy driving a nice car. Just don't top end it on some tiny road. Motor On!

True... but why waste the money on a MINI... and why increase the risk with a car that really is not your average beast? There's no point in aruging because i'm taking the point that the thing that you want to do maybe is not in the best of intrest... for you or a MINI... your arugment is that mom and dad will buy you a car, and you want a MINI. There's no arugment there...
