Options for permanently wiring iPod from Glovebox or...weed...stash...thing.

I'm am absolutely positive that this has been discussed before, but I haven't been able to dig up the definitive thread/answers. So apologies.

Anyway, what I'd like to do is put an iPod in either the glove box or the secret compartment and run a cable into the dash, connecting to the head unit (H/K, w/ Connected) inside the center stack (rather than popping out and using up the front USB slot).

But I don't know how feasible that is.

Is there a rear input currently going unused on the head? Can I splice into existing USB wiring, so that I preserve it's utility, but also add a connection for the iPod? Does anyone sell something to make this easier? I can't be the first person to think of this, right?

I should probably specify that I'm looking to pass not just the audio, but also the artwork/song info to the screen. So I need a data connection; not just an audio one. I honestly don't mind losing the ability to plug things into the front USB, but I don't want a wire permanently plugged in there. I want to go totally stealth.
