The Mach5 has been crushed. Stopped on raining wet roads when rear-ended by a full size van. The impact was such that MINI was smashed into the car in front. Hood is bent out on pass. side and has several deep creases between headlamp and grill. Some grill damage and bumper area around driving lights heavily damaged. Suprisingly the rear bumper has only some scrapes that are visible. Considering the impact i am surprised the rear is not caved in. The impact pushed the car probably 4 to 5 feet to the car in front. Airbags did not deploy.

Any advice on repair situation would be appreciated. How long will it take to get parts etc. ?

I am ok, sore neck is all. However I can't believe the MCS is all mashed.
The MINI design seems structurally solid I am surprised at how well the car held up.

Monday, I quess I will find out how helpful Motor City Mini is.

 

It must be international rear-end a Mini day we just got hit by a Peugot 106 who's driver wasn't looking at the road (she was lost and trying to spot road signs). (see the thread 'Crunch!' Fortunately she did hit the brakes before hitting us and all Nellie looks to have sustained is a crack on the rear bumper and a small dent in the chrome bumper insert. I hope BMW paid the designer of the rear bumper a really good bonus, as it looks like it's absorbed all the impact without letting anything else take damage.
Our insurance company is sending someone round to pick Nellie up for damage assessment on Monday. My only worry is, will the insurance company let us get her fixed at a proper Mini garage so we don't blow the warranty ?

 

I'm taking mine to MINI dealer. You should just impress upon the insurance that you must take your car to proper MINI dealer. The insurance usually is not a major problem here in U.S.

Man,I am disturbed by the overwhelming number of lawsuits filed in this country over trivial things...but in this instance I'm forced to advise you to seek out Johnny Cochran and take the guy that ruined your car to the cleaners!!!! I would have a brand new MCS and a spare, not to mention pain and suffering.....but glad you are OK...happy (limping?)

 

Is it me, or does the MINI almost invite getting rear-ended... not due to any design flaws, just the fact that it seems people like to drive like idiots when they are near a MINI... tailgating, getting up close at stop lights, speeding up to get in front and then slowing down, and generally be (what I call) 'offended' because you out accelerated them off of a stoplight, or went through a turn faster... grrrr..
