Is there a known problem with this speaker as under certain conditions I get a blown speaker type sound under low bass Even with the bass at neutral and the sound at a reasonable level the sound remains.

If this is typical, would a replacement in warranty be worth it or should I upgrade these two front door speakers?

I've got H-K and don't have that problem. I'd say, if you're only getting it out of one side, then it is probably a problem with that speaker. Also, if you hear it on all or most of the EQ settings (Electronic, Mini H/K etc.) then that would also tend to confirm it as a specific speaker problem.

This is very "normal" for your car to do this. I posted on this subject back in march 03. Search for "HK" and "rattle"...you'll find many threads on this.. And yes, it's fixable with better sound dampening. Another way to combat this problem is to first set to either HK Mode or Ecectronic. Then fading to the rear speakers all but two or three ticks. Also take the bass down three ticks as well. This should allow you to crank it up!

 

One other thing - replacing *only* the speakers is not recommended with the HK system.
