How is it we are able to get turn by turn navigation through our H/K sound system from our iPhone? It sends the turn-by-turn voice commands through our system, even when it is off. I am trying to figure out how this is possible because we don't have Connected in ours.

 

You must have it plugged into the y cable.

 

The way that (IOS) Google Maps and Apple Maps and others work, is that the program will send the instructions via Bluetooth as if it was a call. The Mini audio system deals with it as if it is a call and mutes the sound and amplifies the instructions from the phone over Bluetooth. Watch your audio system as it happens and you will see the phone display appear in the car audio display (does this on my Boost system).

So I reckon that all the building blocks are there to send music over Bluetooth. I bet a jail broken App could do it. I think it just needs a music playing App with an option to send over Bluetooth as a phone call. The sound quality may be reduced because it is a phone quality transmission but maybe not.

I just think you need a music app playing in the background. The audio from google maps will come through over the music app. The only time phone sounds trigger the bluetooth is Siri.
