How do I remove this from my wheels?

I spent almost all day trying to get this burned on stuff off my wheels, it's definitely on top of the finish. I tried using Meguiar's Ultra cut compound to no avail, this stuff is tough crap to remove!

Any help appreciated!

Thanks,
Systemlord.

This stuff is amazing at getting brake dust off. As soon as you spray it on you will see it working.

I never thought my clay bar would get that diamond dust off! It's very time consuming though, an hour per wheel. It's like trying to scratch tough sandpaper with your fingernails, hard as diamond dust! I purchased the 07 MCS like this and the rear wheels have never been rotated to the front, I guess that's what happens when the three previous owner's get the car repossessed that many times.

I'll pick up some of that Purple Power wheel cleaner and see if that gets every little spec of burnt brake dust.

Pictures tomorrow.

Thank you guy's, I never thought I would get that diamond dust off, I almost accepted it the way it was! Glad I didn't.

Is this like Sonax Full Effect or Brake Dust Pro?

Here's the cleaned and polished wheel after using a clay bar and my Meguiars G110v2 Polisher at speed setting #4! It looks a lot better in person since my flash is washing out the picture, there's plenty of gloss on these wheels now. Is it normal to get a layer of brake dust after only 2 miles of driving?

I know my rotors are at minimum thickness, perhaps my two slider bars on the calipers need to be lubed? I'm a few months away from putting new rotors and pads on, went for the Mini slotted and cross drilled sport rotors. Pads undecided.

Oem pads make tons of dust....as do some track pads.
lower dust options are around....akeenono is a nearly dustfree option, but not great for hard drive or auto x...
Ebc greens and reds are popular depending on driving style....

I drive hard on the gas pedal in the mountain valleys roads that are windy near where I live, but I don't brake aggressively enough to the point of brake fading with the OEM pads. What I don't want is a pad that's harder on my rotors in exchange for less brake dust, if I use the EBC reds I probably won't get them to operating temperature, therefore there just going to squeal and squeak, right?

How would you rate the OEM pads versus the Akebono pads when it comes to braking performance, fade and low dust?

I live in flat Florida and had EBC reds just on the rear for a bit and traded the car before I could get them on the front. There was no squeal and much less dust.

Drive EBC reds on the street and AutoX. Nary a squeek or squeal. Great pads.

I've heard on this forum that with some EBC Red users that they do squeak for the first 1000 miles even after bedding. I guess what I want is what to expect after installing the EBC Reds, will they squeak a little before and after bedding? If I know what to expect and let's say they do squeak a little at least it's expected, this way I can rest at ease when they do instead of second guessing my decision and getting bent out of shape.

They could squeal a bit during bedding, but once out of that phase you should be good to go.

You'll be fine. My EBC green stuff was squeaking for about 800 miles. After that those brakes gave me great bite!

In the end it was Sonax Wheel Cleaner Full Effect (made in Germany) that removed all the diamond dust! The little bits of burned on brake dust took seven applications to get it all off, this brake dust must have been on there for a couple of years. I had to let it soak in five minutes each application! Once it started working the black dust turned red meaning that the Sonax was eating away at the brake dust.

I was going to say Sonax, that stuff is amazing... I've seen it remove baked on brake dust off a set of 20 year old BBS RSs.

Plus its fun to watch it change color as it works.

Sonax Wheel cleaner and 1z Cockit Premium are are two favorite european cleaners...

Thanks,

It's baked-on brake dust.
Any good wheel cleaner will work, I use P21 since I bought their stuff on sale a few years ago. Works really well, similar to this:

Just make sure you don't leave it baking on the the wheel's clear coat too long, else it will start dissolving the clear-coat !
