Electrical R53 License Plate Housing Assembly
R53 Boot Handle License Plate Light Housing Assembly
So I got pulled over at 1am today because I had a license plate light out. Hey, I get it, it's 1am and most of the bars just closed so it's a spot check. That's cool, good guy and let me on my way after making sure I was ok to do so. No problem.
Problem lies in that I went to replace the bulb, and I need to replace the whole housing. Turns out on of the mounting tabs for the light is almost completely gone. I'm guessing the light bulb was making limited contact, and some arcing was occurring over time. Guess I should be happy it didn't cause a fire.
Now I need the part number for the whole housing itself. Anybody have this part number?
TIA!!!

Here you go. You will need to have it painted or you can get a chrome one.

The one above is the black standard version. Thanks for the mention Bram.
Don't forget the "Chrome" version.

"Primed" Version: ( for painted rear trunk grips )

Trunk Lid Grip - JCW Carbon Fiber

Lens pops out and the terminals corrode that holds the bulb. Its an all in one unit.
Thanks

Understand that was no slam on ECS, I've had good dealing with you guys. Just stoopid of Mini to design it this way.
Before I plunk down $$, I'm going to do a little surgery of my own. A couple of gum wrappers, some gorilla glue and duct tape and I should be all set.

No problem scf , we are here to help.
The prongs can get really corroded, I have cleaned them in the past with di-electrical cleaner and a toothbrush to buy some time. Best way to prevent is to change out the rear lens if you see water condensation or if its cracked. Also replacing the seal between the trunk and the grip when you see any leaks so it will help from wter getting in the back way. I know sometimes it can go un-noticed , then once you see it, its too late .

Good luck with the fix and hope it works for you.

ECS - Thanks for the links to your products, it's appreciated. However, my local Mini dealer matched the price, and I saved shipping. Again though, thanks.
Sooooo, I picked up a completely new boot handle of the black variation. Got chatting with the parts guy at Mini of Bedford. I said I was buying the black version as it made the most sense. Don't care for the chrome, not dropping the $ on the CF, so I opted for the black one especially since my roof is black on my dark silver R53. He said that if I wanted to keep the dark silver boot handle, just swap the covers.
Huh?
Yeah, it just snaps on with a little glue on the back. Take a plastic pry tool and carefully take it apart.
ok, what the hell. So, I did. Here is the result:

Sorry about the blurry third picture. The red circles are where the tabs are, follow the arrows and you can probably see I snapped the two middle ones on the new cover (didn't on my dark silver one). the green circles are the flat tabs, they are a little different from the red circled ones. You can see the glue(white).
So, now I'm just cleaning up the dark silver cover so I can install it on the new handle housing. Just figured I'd drop the pictures out here in case others were in the same situation, and didn't want to pay to paint the handle.
And done, and yes my photo taking skills leave alot to be desired:
