04 Hiccup

My 04 s has developed at very sporadic hiccup (misfire). Usually under acceleration, I get a very brief (blink of the eye) misfire. Can't predict when it will happen, it just does.

today, I went to pull away from a stop light, not fast, let out the clutch hit the gas and momentary nothing.

Other than the that the car runs great at 160k.

Am I experiencing a fuel pump starting to check out?

I'm stumped.

I guess I should add this has gone on for several months. Never severe enough to chase it down.

At 160,000 it could be a variety of things including plugs, wires or the coil. But my guess is you have a leaky injector. If you don’t regularly use Top Tier fuel, I would run some Techron through the system just to see if it gets better. For me I put a 20oz bottle in a half tank no matter what it says on the bottle.

thanks Rich

plugs and wires are on my short list.

I'll try the techron and see how that works.

Good luck....
I hope the cleaner works....
Often gen1 cars can burn an exhaust valve....
This often starts as an intermittent misfire...and progresses in a few months to a major issue. Just monitor it...see where it goes..but I would NOT spend $$ tossing random parts at it. Obviosily, if the car is DUE for plugs, wires, etc, they might help!
Another thing to look at is you coil....the stock coil tends to get a bit of corrosion on the the plugs where the wires connect....polish it up, and add some dielectric grease to keep it clean.

Be SURE to install the plugs with a torque wrench....in a COLD head.
MINI's are kinda known for spitting out plugs...they tend to loosen....but too tight rips out the threads...also causing the loss of the plug....if this happens, it can be fixed..in place with a helicoil....but a $20 torque wrench from walmart will prevent it!
