Lowering springs and sport mode

if this is on another thread, I couldn't find it. Im still trying to figure out how a mini operates. I was told that hitting sport mode tightens up suspension, gears, ect.. does lowering springs effect sport mode at all? Im still under warranty, does lowering springs effect it at all?

It changes shift point on the transmission , it basically keeps the revs up so you are more in the power band. It also tightens up the steering as I am sure you have felt and changes the accelerator pedal ratio (throttle by wire) for quicker response.

As far as lowering your MINI, that will not effect your warranty. Don't let the dealer bully you into thinking it will. There is a law to protect you called http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Magnuso...s_Warranty_Act

the sport button does NOT change any suspension settings nor does it increase engine power

what it does do is

1) changes the engine response to throttle pedal movement ...
with the sport button off, the throttle pedal is "linear", 1/4 pedal movement gives 1/4 throttle opening ... with the sport button on, the throttle pedal is "progressive", 1/4 pedal movement gives 1/2 throttle opening
these may not be the exact numbers, but you get the idea ... it makes the car feel faster

2) it changes the amount of power assist the power steering gives, off = more, on = less

3) if you have an automatic transmission, sport button on raises the shift points and how the transmission responds to throttle movement ... sport button off, if you lift off the throttle, the transmission will upshift, sport button on, it will hold in gear ... i have heard that it will not use 6th gear with sport button on, i have a manual so can not confirm that

It does use 6th on the auto in Sport mode. Otherwise, you nailed everything, Scott.

Apologies if this is a dumb question... what is the point of decreasing the power steering assistance when sport button is on? Is it just a cosmetic thing?

With decreasing the power steering with the sport mode on, it makes the steering firmer so it is easier to control
