multiple fuel pump, battery replacements
multiple fuel pump, battery replacements
The other day I had my high pressure fuel pump replaced for the third time on my 09 clubby with just 25,000 miles. Second battery on its way out also. At least this time I believe the fuel pump problems were brought on by the dead battery.
After the car is started with a car battery starter/charger, the car will run very poorly, if at all, seems to go into a limp mode. After a few minutes when the car can be started on its own, the car will run normally. But the engine misfire codes are generated while the car coughs and spits before it starts to run properly. Also have problems with the radio after a jump, where the radio looks like it is on, but there is no sound. Sound comes back after restart. No presets are lost. If the car is jumped with the door open, then the windows need to be reset also.
As with most electronics, they need a good stable power supply, so if a system cannot maintain a minimum voltage, there is going to be a problem.
Service Adviser says many computers will drain battery even while it is sitting around doing nothing, but then cannot explain why my mom's '08 BMW with 31, 000 miles still has original battery. They have acknowledged that with the comfort access system (I do not have this option), the key cannot be stored anywhere near the car.
Service manager says I need to drive the car more often and/or get a battery maintainer. Not always possible to drive the car as often as needed, so battery maintainer is in the works. Pigtail for charger quick disconnect can be put in gap between windshield and cowl cover or as the SM suggested, there is a gap around the side scuttle that can be used.
As a long time British car owner I am well aware of the Prince of Darkness, but this is ridiculous
