Clubman Air Filter or Intake w/filter?

I have a 2009 Clubman S.
I am thinking of a KN air filter, but do most mini owner go to the CAI ?

Thoughts ?

Do a search here for CAI. You'll find lots of opinions, but little consensus. One train of thought is that CAI has little benefit on turbocharged engines.

I put a K&N (filter only) on mine mainly because I've been using their filters for some time on other vehicles. But I have to admit that the next time I run across a great deal on the JCW intake, I might go in that direction.

What state do you live in? I'm asking because where I live in California you can fail the visual smog inspection if you have a CAI that is not CARB certified and does not have a certifacation sticker attached. I just failed the smog test on my truck that had an uncertified CAI on it. I am going to go with a K&N filter in my stock airbox since my S is otherwise stock.

Georgia - no inspection for my county.
If a CAI isn't beneficial, then I may go with just a normal KN air filter ( because I have used them in the past with all other cars ). But the CAI's looks good under the hood.. and maybe a BOV to boot !

Look at AEM, DDM RIS, and DoS for actual functionality of cold air being sucked in. If you just put a cone filter on, you'll lose low end power and suck hot air in. Preferably for myself, I'd love the JCW stage 1 air box, or just slap a panel filter in your OEM box.

Yeah the AEM looks sweet, and adds a good 14hp gain... little pricey, but not bad...
other options ? I do not want to go the 15% pulley route..
