I need new brakes already!?

I've been doing a lot of city driving lately, but with 11k miles, the computer says my front brakes need changing in 3,800 miles. Isn't this kind of early? It's going to be covered under the free maintenance so i guess that's fine...

I wouldn't take it too seriously. My car has said I need new brakes in 900 miles for the past 3 months. I'm at around 17k on the original pads.

the number in the OBC is an estimate only, based on what i do not know

the actual wear sensor acts as a normally closed switch, when the pads wear down to the point that the wear sensor rubs, it changes from closed to open and triggers a warning

I took my Countryman All4 S in for its oil change, and the Service Advisor said that the sensors were indicating that brakes were due for a change -- but at only ~14000 miles, it was unlikely. They proceeded to upgrade software on the car because of a known issue with false positives coming from the sensors.

YMMV

For anyone that has coded their Mini, be cautios, the brake software update clears almost all coding (skipped the sunroof for some reason) and I had to re-code every module after the update.

I had the same thing happen this week. When I brought it in the service manager seemed to know instantly what it was and mentioned he had others come in with the same issue. The service manager said the software update takes 4-5 hours to complete so I have to bring it again this week and leave the car in for the entire day. Glad I didn't do an ECS tuning yet. Sounds like this will reset everything.

I had the same issue, 22,000 miles said I needed new front brakes. The dealer reset the car and sent me on my way. They said if it happens again they would upgrade the software.
