235 vs 215

So Ive spent the last hour or so searching and didnt get a definite answer to what I am wondering.

Im doing a track event on the 28th, and i need new tires, I currently have 215/45/17 on the car now, well Ive decided on the dunlop Direzza ZII but I am contemplating going to a 235/40/17. I am not positive on the current wheels offset (its either a +42 or +45) I have an 09 MCS and am wondering if anyone has done a 235/40/17 at the track, did you have any rubbing issues? What are the pros and cons to a 235 vs a 215? Thanks for the help guys!!

I run a 235 without issue on my r53 your main worry though you need at least an 8" wide wheel. You might be able to force it on a more narrow wheel but do so at your own risk as the manufacturer approved the tire for a different wheel width.

I may be mistaken but I thought I read that a couple guys on here have 235 on 7.5" wide wheels. Obviously I'm looking for the widest tire possible for the track but 225s don't seem to be very popular

Yes you can fit them on a more narrow wheel but again you do so at your own risk as you are beyond manufacturer requirements when you do so. Ideally you would have a second set with 225s as you have mostly race tires available in that size.
