Wheel/Tire Help!

Hey guys as you might already know i just got a R52 Silver Mini with lots of upgrades, I'm afraid to say we encountered our first bump yestreday.

And by bump i mean hitting a curb completely sideways at 40 Mph

I am okay however and so is he! I just need to fix the front left drivers side wheel and tire and was planning on changing all the rims eventually anyway.

See i need help as to what will fit? i just ordered 2 new tires and want to know if the rims i am planning on buying will fit these tires?

I am far from car savy :(

Thankyou in Advance!

My small brain can comprehend that the other wheel says 18 inch and i ordered 17inch tires so should i be looking more into something like this?

I don't mean to pee on your cornflakes oh my wise brother, but here's the thing.

Sideways to a curb at a good speed (40?) sufficient to damage the left front tire AND wheel, right?

That impact transferred one hell of a lot of force into at least the left front suspension and axle, and through that axle into the bottom end of the transaxle. Possibly the left rear also to a lesser degree?

As you have not spoken of any strange noises, I dare hope that no bearings have been damaged, as the wheel bearings on the LF corner AND the bearings at the edge of the gearbox where the axle enters would both have been hammered. I'd suggest you keep a sharp ear for noises for a while, with your fingers crossed.

In addition what I would do (after finishing a fair old bit of cursing) is bite the bullet and get the alignment checked. If anything in that corner has moved that shouldn't have, or any part has been fatally weakened that might eventually fail, you really want to know about it I should think.

Sorry to be jumpy, but that sounds like a nasty impact and I know from personal experience that there can be hidden damage.

Here's hoping I am wrong on all counts.

Cheers,

Charlie

Oh trust me i know i have had the guys checking it out at the mini dealer, i guess i should have mentioned that in the first post but yeah i am getting a wheel allingment aswell as a new control arm because my front left one was bent.

I was just mainly staying on topic about the wheel+tire combo :P but thankyou for the info! ill check for that when i go see my mini tmmrw and hopefully they know to look for it aswell because they are the pros !

What wheels are you specifically looking to purchase. The wheels in your second post cannot be correct because there are 5 bolts instead of 4 for the Mini.

Your wheels need to have the right number of holes (4), the correct spacing between holes (100), the correct hub size (56.1) or an adapter ring, and the proper offset. Plus you need the correct diameter (17) and width (7 or 7.5") to work with the tires.

Tirerack.com is a good resource to determine what wheels are available for your car.

Yes but you will need centering rings for the hub bore. You will need a ring that goes from the 72.6 on the Motegi wheel to the 56.1 for the Mini hub.
