I have an R53, and am swapping out my rusted old front calipers for some newer R56 calipers that I had powder coated.

I have all the necessary parts, (I've researched this much), but don't know about the brake pad wear sensors. Are those the same for both the R56 and R53? Specifically in how they attach to the pad...

Asked another way, can I retain my current R53 brake pad wear sensors, to be used with the new R56 pads, (without modification)?

 

the sensors for a GEN1 and a GEN2 are different, but the slot that they fit into appears to be the same from a quick look.

You would need to stay with GEN1 (R53) sensors . . . and they should fit fine

altho my recommendation would be to just 'jumper them out' ...

You appear to be quite car savy, do you need a cheap sensor to tell you it is time to change the pads? I check my pad condition regularly .... I jumpered the sensors. If your sensors are good - just don't put them in the pads, zip tie 'em out of the way....

 

I cant recall about the connection that is on the brake pad, but it is a different connection where it connects on the car.

esp' since the GEN1 JCW brake pad is the same as the GEN2 standard pad . . .

 

You can always hook the r53 sensors up and just never put them into the pad.

 

The pad sensors are totally different from R56 chassis to R53 chassis. So you can NOT interchange them. Just reuse your old sensor if it's good. On the R53 you can reuse the sensor as long as the light is not on. On the R56 if the sensor is worn half way or more it has to be replaced as the sensor breaks at the halfway point and that's how the computer knows mileage to countdown.

Thanks for the info, guys. I am pretty sure that my current R53 sensors are going to be just fine to continue using, because my current pads on there aren't very worn.

I never even considered NOT attaching them... That's another workaround, too.
