About the Countryman Cooper S engine/exhaust sound

Hello,

I'm quite lucky to own a Clubman Cooper S and a Countryman Cooper S.

These two cars are great, however, I'm quite surprised and disappointed about the engine and exhaust sound from the Countryman; it looks like the sound of the countryman is not as "rasping" and lovely as the Clubman.

What do you think about the Countryman Cooper S sound ?

cheers

lau

Same. My Countryman S is in the shop and they gave me a Cooper S for a loaner. The exhaust sound and pops from the Cooper are awesome. Much more pronounced than the dull thump of the Countryman's exhaust when decelerating.

I honestly miss the burble of my old MCS. With the second gen MINIs, assuming you even have sport mode on, it's more restrained to my ear...

You can always get an aftermarket exhaust system installed. Go to your local muffler shop and see what they can do for you. I got a Magnaflow muffler installed for about $250. Now the ceramic coated flat black tips were another $90.
Check out 1bigpea for a clean install and a sound byte.

R60S is definitely more subdued. My wife has a R57S and that thing sounds so much cooler and pronounced like someone stated when it's fired up and running. I think I'm going to have to look for an updated exhaust to get it to purr more...

I like the R60 S sound. I can ID the car a block away when my wife is driving it home. I think it is better than the R53 I used to own.

i installed a milltek downpipe-back exhaust

it has no second cat and no resonator, only the back muffler

at part throttle/steady speed and under 3,500 rpm it is almost as quiet as stock, but over 3,500 rpm steady speed or full throttle it sounds like a proper exhaust

the off-throttle pop/burble is much more pronounced

it was an easy install, about 2 hours from ground, jacking, remove stock, install milltek and back on the ground ... i had a friend to help

low end torque is much better
