Not sure how you are ever going to get 35. but a lot of factors go into gas milage. Is it a S, automatic or manuel, an ALL4, and of course driving style. I personally get about 22 combined and am ok with that. I do believe that the CM is not as much of a gas saver as people think.

It depends a lot of factors, like your driving style, the roads you're on, and even the temperature outside.

What model do you have? The mpg numbers you give aren't quite the official numbers on either the S or the non-S.

I've had mine almost two years. I 've never reset the computer.....so sumer, winter, city, highway miles all in there. I am at 24.7 MPG. Winter it goes down.....by end of summer I expect it to go back up to 25.4

Whoever told you 35 lied. If you cruised at a steady 45-50mph for a full tank of gas you might get that mileage, but I'm not sure where you'd do that.

Mpg is so reliant on so many factors, that no one can really tell you what you're going to get. If you leave every stop fast, your mileage goes down. If you're on the gas till the very last second, then use your brakes for a stop, it drops your mileage. If its cold or hot your mileage goes down....

My wife and I couldn't get the same mileage in her old 4runner, and I know we won't get the same in her CMS4... She is a bit easier on the throttle, and gets about 5-7% better mileage than me...

If you're worried about it, then search the internet for hypermiling techniques...

I was getting about 26.9 combined until the time got cold. I started idling inside with to get heat during the winter, so I'm down to 22.4. I maxed out at 32 mpg driving to Canada. It all depends on your driving style.

You are correct! I've never heard of the R60 giving 35 mpg.

I'm still in the "break-in" period and only getting about 22mpg, mostly city driving.

We are too, with highway biased mixed driving, we got 26.8 on our first two tanks.

The 2013 Mini Countryman (non-S) with manual gearbox is rated at 27 city, 35 Highway in the EPA tests. If you drive EXACTLY the EPA test protocol, in 65-75F, using summer fuel you may get these results. In cold weather and with winter blend fuel, with a new engine, you are unlikely to get close.

I just drove a 2013 Mini Cooper Roadster with the same engine and manual for 300 miles on the highway, 65 mph cruise, warm weather and got 40 mpg. My Countryman S ALL4 manual got about 34 mpg on a similar highway trip.

03/2012 build cms all4, over the first 10k miles, my overall calculated mpg is 28.8 (spreadsheet on my 'puter)

roughly 60% country roads, 20% city, 20% highway

best tank, 41.9, 411 miles, 9.8 gals, 55 mph the whole way

Hearing all sorts of results which proves driving style has a great deal to do with results. No disrespect but how can you own A S model and drive 55mph for 400 miles. The whole reason I got this vehicle is for the fun factor. Driving 55 mph is far from fun. I zip this thing around any chance I get, enjoying the S power. Am I alone on this, the CM is an economical car no matter how you drive it, Setting the cruise control on 55mph to save a feew bucks is not something I will be doing.. My advice is enjoy the low cost of ownership of this vehicle and have some fun.......

my one and only 55 mph trip was a gofer run for parts for work, and a test to see just how high an mpg was possible

i guess i should also have included my worst tank, 12.2 mpg over 201 miles, that was a fun couple of tanks!

makes much more sense. The point of my post was to point out how much driving style has to do with mpg. long story short have fun with it .

On the fun factor: I have more fun in acceleration and curvy roads than anything else. Having the cruise set at 55 vs. 62 on the highway has little to no influence on the fun factor for me. I tend to set it lower when I'm not in a rush in order to save gas.

Now, winding shoreline roads with good visibility, slinky curves, voluptuous hills, and beautiful views? Press my sport button, let me at 'em, and damn the consequences to my efficiency.

We get 37 in our 2012 Countryman Cooper not S. We never touch the sport button. We drive conservatively and 25 miles each way to/from work at a pretty much constant 60 mph. The computer says 37.6, but my estimate based on gas purchases and mileage is 36-37.

Thanks. I just drove 146 through Branford/Guilford a few times in the last few days, so beautiful windy shoreline roads are fresh in my memory.
