I'm been looking for a set of after market wheel and it seems that 205/40/17 wheel is most mentioned for the cheapeast packaged wheels. Is this ok for MCS or should I stick with 205/45/17 (or other mentioned 215/40/17, but never found any tire package with this spec).

The tires will be used mainly in the street and looking for better performance/ride quality.

Here's packages that I've been looking at...

See if the link below works. It's a bunch of tires on tirerack.com in 215 40 17. The Kumho Ecsta MX's seem pretty reasonable. Alex or somebody else would know for sure, but I would think the 205 40 17's overall diameter would be small enough to throw off your speedometer, but maybe not. I'd think the 215's in a 40 series would be about the same as the 205 45 17. HTH. JR

EDIT: the link didn't work, so just do a search for TIRES by size on Tire Rack. JR

The 205/45-17 OEM run flats have a "V" speed rating and 84 load rating.

The Nankang tires in these packages only have an "H" speed rating, fine for a Cooper but too low for a Cooper S. Also, 40 series tires tend to have a lower than recommended load rating.

A good choice for 17" non runflats for a MINI would be:
Yokohama ES 100 in 215/45-17 or 215/40-17. Either would work OK.
Bridgestone Potenza Pole Position S-03 in the same sizes are heavy but perform very well.

205/40 is short in load capacity reserve, 205/45 or 215/45 are ideal.
