Electrically Folding Mirrors

My GF called and said she forgot to unfold the mirrors when she left the house this morning, and they opened themselves as she was driving. Is that a new feature for model year 2013? I don't recall that happening with our 2012.

Assume if you have a 2013 with electrically folding mirrors you have the feature?

up to about 20 mph, they can be folded in motion, above about 20, they unfold by themselves

Good assumption. Didn't work on 2013 w/o folding mirrors

Scott, our 2012 definitely did not. That's why it surprised my GF when it happened on the new car...then again maybe this was related to the other electrical system issues we suffered through with that car

i fold mine most every time i park, before i come to a standstill and most of the time, i let the car unfold them by itself, unless i need the mirrors to back out of a parking spot

That is a great safety feature! I need to test is now!

I usually fold them in when I am parking in a downtown parking garage, just in case the person next to me is not paying attention. I do a lot of parallel parking and don't really see the need unless I am on a very narrow street which is rare where I live.

We have too much junk in our garage, So there's not a lot of room to walk past the car, even with its small size. When the CM is in the garage we fold them in just to keep us from inadvertently damaging the mirrors.

I've only folded mine in once, when I first got the car, as I was going through the owners manual checking out the car's features.

I can see where it would be useful if you had limited space.

I've only honked the horn once too, about the same time as I checked out the electrically folding mirrors.

Hmmm, I don't see this as an option online.

I have a 2012, the in service date is 2/1012. I have the cold weather package, my mirrors do not automatically fold out upon acceleration!

I don't "get" the attraction of folding mirrors.

I use them daily in cramped parking lots. Do my best to let people by without scuffing my mirrors. Hope that helps.

I use mine everytime I drive. In a tight, crowded environment like New York City - when cyclists, messengers, scooters, pedi-cabs, delivery carts, trucks and buses are all jockeying for a little space on narrow streets - the power folding mirrors have come in very handy! Can't tell you how often while waiting at a traffic light, I have looked in the mirrors and saw an approaching threat. A quick turn of the button - mirrors fold in - I get by unscathed. The car in front of me usually gets their mirrors wacked.

Can the powerfold mirrors be programmed like the BMWs?

I know in the x5, the mirrors can be programmed to fold with the remote by locking the doors and keeping the button pressed for a half second. The mirrors will also unfold when the doors are unlocked.

I use my side mirrors under 20 mph and would not want to wait until that point to have them unfold.

They can't be programmed as far as I'm aware of. There's nothing preventing you from unfolding them as soon as you start the car. You don't have to wait until they fold out automatically.

I've tried getting mine to auto unfold, but no such luck. I have a fall 2011 build, model year 2012.

I was told they cannot be coded, like the BMW and I have a 2012 2011 build that does not auto unfold

It would be more convenient to have the mirrors fold and unfold with the remote.

Can anyone who has a 2013 with powerfold mirrors confirm whether they can fold and unfold with the remote?
