TPMS on an 07 MCS

I have a May '07 build MCS with the ABS type TPMS...I recently purchased a set of R112s coming from an '09 with the TPMS located on the valve stems. The R112s have roughly 2500 miles on them. Just to throw out my "duh" question, would the newer TPMS interfere with anything going on with my MCS?

Also, is there a computer "flash"/upgrade for the pre-June '07 builds to have the newer TPMS's work? If not, are TPMS's reusable? (so I can sell them, since it seems they would be not needed for my car...)

Thanks!

I had a 2007 S and r105s with TPMS in the stems and there were no issues for me.

Try and reset the sensors through the service menu (turn signal stalk). I have an 08, and have a set of wheels off of an 09. I reset the system and have no issues. I think that they changed sensors in 10 models that are not compatible with the older ones (different frequency). You should be fine with your setup.

There's no problem running TPMS wheels on a non TPMS car. That's our track setup with Tristan.

I would assume a software upgrade couldn't enable TPMS as your car wouldn't have the necessary hardware to receive the signals from the sensors. I'm pretty sure the sensors would be reusable, I just replaced the ones in Tristan's track wheels with newer spec ones. I now have the old ones to sell. As mentioned there are 2 standards of sensors, they started in mid 07, then changed them sometime around 09 or 10 (not sure when).

If you completely removed the sensors you'd it'd take an equivalent weight to balance the missing sensor. I just weighed one, its 50g, which is quite a bit of balancing weight.

By ABS type TPMS do you mean the type that were on the 1st gen cars that basically counted tire rotations to sense a low tire pressure? If so then you have rubber valve stems like my early build '07 MCS. You don't have to worry about the TP senders in the later model wheels, either use them as is or remove the sensors and replace them with rubber valve stems to save weight. Wheels will need to be balanced if you convert to the rubber valve stems.

I got a screaming deal ($1000) for a brand new set of JCW R105s with Pirelli P Zero run flats. Put them on my 2013 Cooper S and love them! They have the metal stems and I have been told that means they have TPMS. They don't sync with my on car TPMS, I've reset them several times. I've looked at TPMS sensors online and they all seem to be 433MHz. What 's up?

Maybe the new wheels don't line up with the sensors placed for a 17 inch wheel...

Are the wheels and sensors new? Like from a dealer? The model/frequency changed in 2010, it is possible that you have the '07-'10 sensors in your new wheels and therefor the newer car will not see or read the "old" stuff. I had this issue before, time to get the current sensors for your car and get them swapped out.

Not sure what Velocityvic is saying here...The size of the wheel means nothing to do with the sensors, everything is over a radio frequency.

You may need to drive 30 miles or so to before they "turn on" -
