Aero grill surround paint

Did anyone went from black plastic aero grill surround to body color painted?
How did you go about painting the part? Professionally or by yourself etc?

i think you can DIY. my process (will be) to clean the grill very very well with rubbing alcohol. then, in an area where you wont get bits on the grill (like pollen, dust, hair, bugs, bugs love paint for some reason) paint the grill in the proper fashion (light coat, then more, ect).

when that dries, re-spray with polyurethane. wait 20-30 mins or whatever the directions say, re-spray. do this 3-4 times. the poly will protect the paint, basically making a shell over it. that way, you dont have to dilly with plastic paint / plastic primer, which IMO, is a real pita. i used it once. you have to wait like a week for it to fully set.
