Harmon Kardon Questions
I have a few questions, if anyone here has the knowledge regarding the speakers with the HK audio system.
1. Does the 6.5 inch speaker in the bottom of the doors of my Mini play mostly low mid/bass because of the signal from the amp? I'd like to replace it with a 2 way speaker but want more mids/highs from it than it currently puts out. If I can get the bass I want from my 6x9 free airs I'm almost tempted to disconnect these altogether, I hate these speakers.
2. More important question: will this speaker: http://www.jlaudio.com/c2-350x-car-a...-systems-99611 fit in the 3 1/2" spot in my car door? I'm about to order this speaker but wanted to be sure it would work out.
3. Has anyone installed these tweets? http://www.jlaudio.com/c3-100ct-car-...ossovers-99023 I'm about to order these also, but was hoping for feedback first.

For question 1) see here: https://www.northamericanmotoring.co...645-post1.html. You would need to bypass and replace the HK amp.
Re: question 2), can't say for sure but probably not. You are limited by magnet diameter AND depth in that location. Also, that's a coax - you do not want to add two tweeters per channel.
Re: question 3), again, you can't just connect a different speaker to the HK amp, at least not if you want it to sound good. The frequency division (crossover) is the heart of any system. System integration is far more important than the relative quality of the individual components.
What are you trying to achieve, and what is your budget?

Thanks Kevin, I wondered about the tweeter on this 3 1/2" speaker and if it would be too much coupled with the current or new tweeter.
My budget is several hundred dollars, no more. I have ordered two 6x9 free air subs ($99, they were a lab sample) which will be powered by an add on amplifier that came out of my previous car (JL 360/4).
I am cancelling the 3 1/2" speaker tomorrow, what you say makes perfect sense.
I was concerned about replacing only the tweeters, thought I'd just add some mids as well. My choice was a poor one, clearly.
The stock tweeters are very fatiguing in this car. It was my hope to clear up the tweet issue with this nice 1" tweeter. It does include a crossover.
