Has anyone tried this cheep ebay header

http://www.ebay.com/itm/Performance-...80944439903%26

I know some people will start the "you get what you pay for" rant but I was wondering if anyone has used this header. I was looking at the OBX but was told I would be better off going with one with the flex joint. The OBX doesn't have it, plus this comes with the test pipe. I'm not looking to drop 800.00 on a header. I ended up with a few extra dollars and this was interesting...

Looks like they started selling them late Aug 2012 selling 9 in last 5 months. May not be enough time for a fair assessment as even some of those are probably not installed yet.

I'd call Waylen and get some advice from him on what would be the best buy for your wallet. He may even had a decent used performance one kicking around the shop.

Thank you sir and i didn't notice when they started selling them. It looks like at least 3 vendors are selling the same one. At least from the pictures of them they all look alike.

Hmm, well then my only concern for a cheap quick fix like this would be if it's like the recent crop of some SS exhausts I have seen. Some require minor modifications. But with respect to the down pipe, dimentions become critical, especially since we don't have lots of room for tools and such.

The stock one has a slight arch to it from middle out, so always tighten the middle flange bolts first and work your way outwards when bolting up.

I have one sitting on my work bench. Ran it for about a week. Nice looking, good welds, loud, but doesn't fit we'll with Alta Cat-back. The bend in the header as it comes under the car is a little sharp, thus pushing the muffler into top of the exhaust tunnel ( for lack of a better name) causing major vibration issues. If I had access to a welder it probably wouldn't be that big a deal, but I don't want to deal with it. If interested ill sell for 1/2 the price of the eBay one.

For the price you cant go wrong, I have heard of fitment issues as well and I am not sure of the quality SS they use, but again the price is nice and the offer from the guy above my post is even nicer.

Well quick update. I got it installed and I DO like it. I had a very mild sounding exhaust and if I keep my foot out of it it's just a bit deeper sounding and a smidg louder. When I put my foot down OMG all hell breaks loose!! It now pulls HARD all the way to the rev limiter and it will rip your ear drums out and stomp on em like a cockroach. Needless to say am VERY happy. Thank you XSMINI this was money well spent.

Haha, glad you like it. I should have told you it was loud.

hey OldGame,

what kind of exhaust do you have after the headers? i have a JCW car, and it needs headers. i too was looking at the obx brand, 4-2-1. how did it fit? is it too loud? should i shell out big bucks for something with a supposed higher quality?

I didn't get the OBX due to the feedback from my mechanic. He doesn't like the SLIP-LIP on it he prefers the actual flex section + it comes with the "TEST pipe".

I have a custom exhaust that was pretty mild sounding (pipe, resonator, pipeand two EUROJET mufflers). It's throatier now and a bit louder at idle. If I keep out of it It's really not bad. As soon as you stomp it EVERYONE knows it's there. At 65 MPH if I'm not pulling hills or anything (in the cabin) I can't really tell its there, so no real drone. BUT here in AZ it's kinda flat. I haven't gone out to the hills yet to see if it will drive my wife nuts. . MOST of the MINI's i have heard with a header are kinda the same way so for the price and gains i'm HAPPY with it.

i dont really care for the non-flex joint also on the obx. that Slip-lip, is that where there are just long bolts with springs on them? sounds hinkey to me...

did you leave the test pipe, or weld on your stock cat, or a hi flow? CELs if no cat? anyone ever used one of those O2 sensor Spacers?

For now test pipe with o2 spacer and no CEL. Of course I would never dream of running it without a cat in the future

And yes the slip lip is my term for a few bolts with springs on em. We did have to bend a few of the heat shields to make sure we wouldn't get any rub but we did it by hand so it's not a big deal to do.

sweet deal with the O2 sensor and spacer. any particular brand? i know they sell diff ones, some angled, some not, some with "high quality" stainless, others that are cheap, ect. i also think i read where you can basically "make" one just with some extra pieces from home depot or something.

the heat shield bending is normal from what ive heard. sounds right to me, as those stock headers are tiny and worthless looking!

were you able to re-use your gasket? or did you spring for a new one?

Not sure what spacer he used. It kinda looked like a spark plus anti fowl adapter to me. It was strait not bent. And I know he drilled out the depth a bit more for it to fit.

As for the gaskets, We reused the OEM one, One trick he showed me was to use black tape to hold it in place when you feed it up from the bottom. He just left it on and it burnt off a few min after we started the car. The one that I posted above actually comes with all the gaskets.

I had one. All the holes were off by a quarter inch and the flex pipe busted within a few hundred miles
