Panel air filter or cone filter?

Hi guys, I tried researching information on which type of filter to use since I will be tuning my MINI this spring. Which filter would be better a K&N panel filter or a cone filter? Please don't come posting about DoS, I'm not interested. Ideas would be welcomed. Thanks guys!

The most important part of that video is at the end when they are talking; "Now depending on your car and they way you have got it tuned, it might be beneficial.". I don't get how people still don't understand this. It has been said hundreds and hundreds of times. Most mods don't have any real benefit until the car is tuned. If you really want to know what filter/intake flows the best you would need to hook them up to a flow bench. If any of you kind people have one of those handy, please do us all a favor and hook up any intake you can get ahold of.

And that's what I'm waiting on is the people you have a cone filter and others you have the panel filter with a tuned engine so I know which intake is better. I've seen that video a billion times. If anyone does, please give me some knowledge.

Are you getting a custom tune on a dyno? The before and after I'd like to see is the DDM vs. the JCW intake. Probably a whopping 5hp difference if any. $200 better spent on something like tires or a swaybar.

Yeah and that's my question basically, to find out if people have pulled out of their cone filter. Otherwise I might get ready to sell it, I could care less about the BOV sound. Don't you have a cone filter setup Shane? Just curious cause I've seen the work done on your MINI(very impressed).

I've had the DDM race intake system since I got my car. That was the hot ticket of the day when I started down the slippery slope in 2009. That system has an oiled cylindrical filter by K&N. In theory I would like to think this DDM race intake system is a good solution since it takes in cold air from the hood scoop and from the snorkel being routed to the bottom of the airbox. It better be for how much I paid for it back in the day! I don't have dyno results to speak of so I guess it's still up in the air.

Right after that the JCW intake was getting rave reviews on the dyno from Jan @ RMW, and now the new hot b1tch on the street is the Defender's of Speed CAI. My feeling is cold air is always better, but if you've already bought something I don't think it's worth the money to keep flip-flopping over 5whp. Real gains come from the downpipe/exhaust, intercooler, and ECU tune. It's just very entertaining to watch people get so passionate about intakes for their MINI on NAM

Better than an intake, exhaust or whatever you will get better gains by doing weight reduction.
