Automatic Transmission Failures

Has anyone had to replace the automatic transmission on their CM?

We own a '12 CMSA4 that BMW is replacing due to repeated electrical system issues. Our current car has a manual trans, but we ordered the replacement car with an automatic because of all the reports of clutch problems (our clutch did not fail, but we had the car only a short time).

We were under the impression that few if any CM automatic owners have had to have transmissions replaced. Is that true?

I think I've seen a post here related to that. I have not had failure in 11k miles. In fact the only issue I've had since ownership is a false tire pressure monitoring reading.

I don't always drive like I'm racing it, but there are days I hit sport mode and hit the curves, so I'd say I give it good wear and tear.

I think the issue is not that big of a deal for non all4 CMS, I have 18k on mine and no issues other than a smelly clutch going up hill at times.

My 2011 CMS automatic trans was replaced under warranty at approximately 30K miles. I had detected a whine under deacceleration and asked the dealer to look into it. They did an analysis of the trans fluid and found suspended metal particles. I'm sure glad I noticed before warranty expired.
