Moon Roof Shades

For those that might be interested, I made shades utilizing Corroplast material that I purchased from Lowes. It is a white plastic, very light, material that is used on political signs. You can purchase it very reasonably and without any printing on it, it allows light but blocks the sun. I attached a couple of pieces of Velcro at each corner of the front sliding shade and installed it from the top. The rear goes in between the shade and the glass. Easily removable when you want fresh air. Works great!!

Moon roof shades

Great picture, great color. Mine is an 08 Sparkling Silver. Looking up through your windows it appears that you may have done the same thing, did you?

Regards,

Moon Roof Shades

I have taken pictures of the shades but cannot figure on how to load pics. I am almost 70 and my brain cells are dying off faster than I desire. Unable to figure out where to look for the URL for the pictures which I presume is required to post the pics. Can someone provide some guidance? Would be greatly appreciated.

You can either host the files online somewhere, like Flickr or something and then post the url with the IMG tags.

Or instead of doing a quick reply, click on "Go Advanced" and you can upload picture files as attachments to your posts.

Moon Roof Shades

Pictures can be seen in the "All Albums" under the heading of Moon Roof Shades. One thing I neglected to mention is that the Coroplast is somewhat flexible and also reduces the wind noise substantially inside the cabin.

Its a good solution but I don't find the sun peeking through the roof to be much of a problem for me. I'm sure in different regions I could encounter that. You should paint it black so it doesn't look so obvious. A Clubbie friend of mine doesn't like that there is no option to have the sunroof/moonroof be blinded. He was considering having an upholstery shop use a lightweight material without holes to replace the netting we currently have. I guess its possible if the material is similar. I just look at it like a possible headache if its not the proper material and at some point jams.

Mini, reason I don't paint it black, I enjoy the light coming through and if black, it would be like a cave. Thanks for your thoughts.

My factory moon roof(s) came with a rolling shade built in on both my MINIs. Is this not all country standard?

moon roof shades

If your like me, one who does not like hats and is missing a great deal of hair on top of his head, one finds out that when the sun is flowing in thru the moon roof, the installed roll up shades don't really work adequately. Being from down under I am surprised that you have yet to discover this problem. Then again, maybe your shades are better than the ones provided in the states. Take care.

Ah yes, they call be 'Chrome Dome' too. Hadn't thought of extra shading, yet. Might have to consider it.
