R50/53 Dealer working for me???????
So today I "received" my plates. Received you ask??? Yes. They were FED-EXed to me! My salesguy also sent me ANOTHER MINI keychain (and it happened to be the one I liked the most of the ones I don't yet have!)! You guys (and girls) that don't tip or don't understand tipping - you're missing out! I was VERY pleasantly surprised that my plates were overnighted to me without even asking. That was SO cool!
Tipping is cool...I'm not a rich man...FAR from it. But good tipping serves two purposes. It lets you make someone else feel good and appreciated. And it also allows you to enjoy a "richer" life from all of the little rewards you get in return!

I agree with tipping people (I was a pizza delivery boy for awhile and my pay was tips) but not so sure with tipping the dealer. As far as I know these guys work on commision. And I know you can't buy one under msrp. So they are making some good $. I think they are just doing there job and want the customer to be happy and maybe down the road you might come back and buy another one or even suggest him/her to someone. So far I had a good experiance with my dealer but I doubt i'll tip him. This is only my opinion. Good luck with your mini. I can't wait till I get mine in Jan.

Just in case you missed my post 2 weeks ago, my salesguy got my MINI in my hands in about 2 1/2hrs after it arrived at the dealer. And the signing and paperwork only took 20 minutes!!! The minute my MINI got off of the truck he had the garage start prepping it b/c he knew I'd be down there that day after my "routine" visits to the dealer every 3 or 4 days for 4 months!!!

OK you got me, he sounds like he went really out of his way. So I guess he deserves it. I doubt mine would do the same. I'm glad you had a good experiance. I'm just a little jealous because i ordered mine in august and won't get it till Jan.
Deja-Vu!... I still say screw tipping... Besides the Japan comment I made in the rist tipping thread, I agree with the DJ we hired for my wedding earlier this year... He tells you flat out that he does not expect a tip in any way, shape, or form. He said he feels he charges a fair price for the service that he performs. If he felt like his service was worth more money, and that it was still a fair price, he'd charge it, but he charges the amount of money he feels that he deserves. And he's no slouch, he's been rated the best DJ in my town for a few years running.. and he was a lot cheaper then one of these larger companies where you get whatever DJ is free for the night...

Hmmm...I didn't tip my dealer and my plates came via FedEx. I also got key chains, collectible literature, dealer give away items, etc with my order. Honestly, I think the only thing your tip did was to pad your rep's pocket. The service you received should not have had to be paid extra for...it should've been the norm. It was the norm for me. But if you like just handing away your hard earned cash I'd be happy to give you my bank account number.

Greatgro - that' s great (no pun intended!) that you have that attitude towards tipping. My wife and I are the same way- very good tippers.
Hell, I even tipped the guy at the car wash the other day because he did the best job cleaning the interior of my car I had ever seen at a car wash and he had the courtesy to say, "you have a nice day, sir and please come back"
You'll appreciate this story. I was at a seminar for engineering sales and the speaker was on the subject about positive attitude and treating customers. He tours the country and for every hotel that had a front desk person who would take the time to say "good morning/afternoon, how are you doing today, Mr. xxxx?", he would tip them $5! This is the surprising thing... he only gave $25 away thorughout the whole year!
