Apple to USB + Aux questions

Hello. I'm hoping the experienced experts can help me out. I've searched, and found a few threads that almost answer my questions, but not quite.

I have a 2011 S, with HK, a that I am using my Ipod Classic with. The cord supplied by Mini, with the apple connector at one end, and the USB and AUX jack at the other end works perfectly. All functions through the radio, etc.

The problem is, it's far too short to permanently hide my Ipod someplace...say the armrest or glove box.

I have now purchased quite a few different cables that don't work. I've bought some from Ebay, that look like the same cable, but are longer. None of them recognize the Ipod. I've also tried just getting an apple 30-pin to apple 30-pin dock extension, and those that I've tried seem to only charge, but not pass audio.

I don't want to keep buying cables HOPING for the best...and figure someone has already solved this for me. Anybody know of a good LONG Apple 30-pin to USB and Aux jack that will charge AND pass audio? I saw JVC unit, part number KS-U19 that looks right, but they only say it's compatible with JVC.

Any help would be appreciated. TIA

I used a USB extension and an audio extension cable.

I thought of that also, but would really like to stick with one cable. Plus, I'm informed that the audio coming out of the 30-pin connector is superior to the audio from the headphone jack, though I have no idea if this is true. There must be a solution that either extends the cable from mini, or replaces it with a longer one that has worked for others on here

Edit: Oh wait a minute. NOW I see what you said...you extended the other ends...the USB end and the Aux In end. That worked OK?

Anyone else have any other solutions?

It worked fine.

After a while I opened up the Y adapter and soldered in the extensions permanently. I stopped using that after I upgraded the iPod, so I needed a new adapter. I haven't got around to bodging up the same thing for the new adapter. The iPod seems relatively happy in the footwell cargo bet.

I have the bodged up adapter with long leads spare now, it'll only work with older iPods though.

Just stick the iPod in the recess under the parking brake. I've been doing it for years. the iPod Classic fits like a champ.

No...I want it completely hidden from view at all times. I've ordered monster cable extenders for the USB and the 3.5mm jack. I just have to believe there's a one cord solution out there somewhere.

I did this as well shortly after buying my car. The two extension cables run under the right stack trim and behind the glovebox. I drilled a hole in the back of the secret compartment box and have the iPod and factory y-cable in there at all times. Works great.

You could probably achieve the same thing by plugging the y cable into the car and then running a 30pin extension to wherever the iPod will reside, but then you will have that silly y cable hanging down there all the time.

Recently I purchased a cheap eBay Bluetooth audio receiver that plugs into the USB port and the aux jack so that I can stream music from my phone. It also works well and the sound quality is very good. I think it was $10 or less shipped. Of course you must control the music from the device and not the car going this route....but the iPod interface on the MINI sucks anyway....so I don't miss that so much.
