Not sure between a 2013 JCW mini with a ECU upgrade or a very tuned 2009 MCS.

I'm a new 2009 MCS owner and was planning on doing a major tune. The budget is somewhere up to 15,000.00 and some change. However when compared to a brand new 2013 JCW with a ECU upgrade. It makes it hard to decide which choice to go with. I do realize the tuned MCS will cost more then the JCW over the long run. However that's no a huge priority in this. The goal is to have as much fun as possible and try not to have it in the shop 24/7.

15k to spend on upgrades? Trade the 09 and use the money to bargain for the best deal you can on the 13 JCW. Best part is you would have a warranty. Thats just my opinion.

Or buy an extended warranty for the 09 then use what is left to upgrade it.

Get the JCW it's forged internals and better turbo would be a better starting point for modifying anyway.

Renntech MINI ECU Upgrade mark 2

Renntech MINI ECU Upgrade mark 2. It says (2010-present) I realize that doesn't apply to the 2013. I'm guessing its just a matter of time.

Thanks--I'm ordering a 2013 MINI S--and after reading some threads it was suggested getting the JCW engine tune -over the standard S and doing the upgrades --then I've learned they put a new engine in for 2013--just impatant--guess I'll sit back and wait

Marbleme, you will get an N18 engine. Lose the impatience and study up.

Just my .02 is the JCW upgrade in a Factory car is something an S model would have a very hard time becoming and cost more in the long haul. Yet they are smoother and quieter riding, yet I like the sounds the JCW has stock, then there's the upgrades from that platform!

I did exactly what you're looking at. Bought a 2010 Cooper S and uprated. Still had JCW envy so I bought a 2012 JCW Clubman and did the same mods.

If I had it to do over, the only thing I'd change is buying the JCW in the first place.
