New Mini and seat lumbar support added
My first post -
Last week I purchased a 2013 hard top without the the lumbar support. I knew the leather seats with the lumbar support were great, but thought the regular seats without the lumbar support would be okay. After two days and 200 miles of driving my back said enough.
Wednesday afternoon I ordered the lumber "springs, backrest, lumbar" p/n 52107299941 from SewellParts.com. Hats off to the folks at Sewell, they got the box on the FedEx truck that evening and it arrived the following day. The kit came with the kn0b, the screws, and the barbed rivets.
Today, I installed the spring mat and lumbar assembly, which only took 20 minutes. I deviated slightly from the instructions on this site when installing the spring and lumbar assembly. After releasing the bottom plastic j-clip that connects the front and back upholstery, removing the barbed rivet and unzipping the back panel, I was able to remove the hard plastic "protection plate". Working from the back of the seat, I was able to remove the spring mat, although I became annoyed with the lower hook and cut the wire with a pair of electrician side cutting pliers.
I did not remove the headrest tubes or the latch paddle.
Installing the spring mat and reassembling the seat was easy. After reassembly, I found the center of the adjuster and created a small hole with a scribe. Using the hole as a reference, I placed the kn0b in position and rotated it slowly leaving a light mark, which I used as a pattern to mark again with the scribe. A sharp box cutter was used to cut the hole in the upholstery.
With the upgrade, the seat is perfect. Andrew, thank you for the clear instructions.

I did my seats as well. All the credit goes this forum and it's helpful posters. The info on installing and the part numbers are perfect. Thanks again for the research, really like having the lumber support.
