R56 JCW to cooper s
JCW to cooper s
hey guys just had a quick question. Will a 2011 jcw turbo-back exhaust fit on a 2008 cooper s? Also will the power difference/restriction be that much or noticeable?
In short, yes.
I don't believe you need a turbo-back JCW exhaust and I don't think that's made. You'll want to get a cat-back system because the JCW and the S share the same downpipe which contains the first cat.
Here are part pages for a 2008 R56 S exhaust and a 2008 R56 JCW exhaust. You'll notice that they have the same picture on both pages and that the only difference is the longer resonator and absence of a 2nd cat on the JCW. Basically proving that a 2008 JCW exhaust is compatible with a 2008 S.
Here are part pages for a 2008 R56 JCW and a 2011 R56 JCW with N18 engine. You'll notice that they're identical proving a 2011 JCW exhaust is compatible with a 2008 JCW exhaust.
So we know:
-2008 S is compatible with 2008 JCW.
-2011 JCW is compatible with 2008 JCW.
Therefore:
-2011 JCW is compatible with 2008 S.

I've sort been wondering about the differences between the JCW and the S, specifically between the downpipe. From looking up Real OEM I get these part numbers for the downpipe:
S: 18307558755
JCW: 18307583146
This is for a 10/2009 build for both the S and the JCW. calforhelp, you say that both downpipes are the same from the S and the JCW. If that is true, then the second cat on the S exhaust is pointless to pass emissions in Cali (where I am), is this correct? If that is the case, then it would be true to put the full JCW exhaust on an S, and even any other aftermarket downpipe-back exhausts would pass the sniffer test. I ask only for clarification since I am a n00b and want clarification since I have a Q300 exhaust coming. I would prefer to not have to put the stock exhaust back on when I go in for smog...

Yes, it *should* still pass a sniffer test if you remove the 2nd cat on the S. I think it's there so that the S can qualify as an ULEV vehicle or something like that while the JCW doesn't.
I don't think anyone knows for sure which exhausts and mods will allow an R56 to pass sniffer tests for sure because not many, if any, people have had to get the test done.
If you remove the 2nd cat, it probably wouldn't pass a visual inspection however. One thing you might be able to try to pass both a visual and sniffer test, is to remove your 2nd cat, break out the stuff inside, and reinstall the hollow cat.

I din't have the 2011 JCW exhaust but, one from an 09 and it fit fine with no issues. I thought this has been covered a million times? Also it is just a cat back not a turbo back as there is no down pipe.
