You might want to try getting a "fork" that will fit around the shifter shaft and put it under the **** and then use a rubber hammer to pound up on the "fork".

I recall that the technique involves leaning over the **** so that it points toward your chest, not your face. Then pull with both hands.

I remember had some trouble getting mine off... I had to mount myself with one leg in the driver's footwell and one leg in the passenger footwell, grasp the shift **** and pull with all my strength... just be sure no one is around to see you when you do this, for the sake of not scarring them for the rest of their life!

that's the truth

no secret and no tool

just a straight pull

ASSUMING what you have now is a stock OEM one . . .

It is not a stock one. Was thinking of using vice grips on the **** shaft, and a hammer to the vice grips. Hope the previous owner did not use adhesive of any kind!

unless it is a Whalen - can't help you

it could be on there with JB Weld in which case you could pull the entire engine into the pass' compartment!

sorry dude but you're screwed

if you want to replace the ****, you may well end up replacing the entire shifter . . .

Check for a trim ring that will unscrew and reveal a set screw, that is what on my R50 when I bought it used.

Have no idea but what about all those hex screws on top? Did you try loosening those?

They secure the top, but don't seem to have anything to do with securing the ****.

If you can find a name brand on the ****, Google it and see how the instructions say to mount it. If no name, Google shift **** lit or light or??? Look in the Image tab until you locate one that looks like yours.

This **** is on ebay. You should be able to unscrew the lower collar and remove the setscrews holding the **** on. Unless it is glued on.

I figured this thread was about the stocker. I can't believe how hard mine was on. I literally could not get it off no matter how hard I tried. 1 hour banging with a hammer...an hour or so straddling it pulling with all my might (and I am in no way a weak person) and ended up using a hacksaw to the lever thanks to having a replacement on hand and no other options. Ridiculous.

Try and develop an alternative: Call your local dealer and ask what they'd charge. I doubt it would take much time for someone who'd done it before.

Think of it as ordering something in a restaurant because it's too much of a hassle to prepare it at home!

that definitely looks like one of the screw/thread on types. I'm almost 100% positive they only come in screw on from working at autozone where they also sold these...i have a really bad gut feeling that someone glued it on

Looks like you are right-the base cover must screw down to hide a set screw. I will try to get it off later today. Cross your fingers! Thanks Again.
