New Dragon Event - Smoky Mountain MINIs Hilltops and Hollers
Smoky Mountain MINIs
Hilltops and Hollers TSD (Time, Speed, Distance) Drive
Take a scenic drive of the valleys and hilltops of the Townsend area. Visit
exotic places like Butterfly Gap, Barb Hollow, Walland, and Waldens Creek, but be
sure and watch your speedometer and odometer because this is a time, speed,
distance drive. If you have never participated in this type of drive before, be sure
and try this one. It will be a very simple rally, designed only to be fun and scenic. Awards
will be made for those who can best maintain their correct speeds (none over the posted speed limit) and answer a few questions along the way. Drive time will last approximately 2 hours and end in Townsend where you can choose from several great places to grab a quick, late lunch before heading back to 129.
Plan to meet in the gravel parking lot at the Tennessee end of the Dragon
for a short driver's meeting at 10:45AM. The first car off at 11:00AM should reach Townsend about 1:15PM for lunch. Because of the closure of Foothills Parkway it is 45 minutes back to Fontana. Anyone participating in the Chili Cookoff or Exhaust shootout should be in the early departing cars. Timing of this event will make for a slightly late lunch so plan accordingly.

Thanks Mark. You beat me to it. Yes, please sign up on the events page so I can make sure to have enough route sheets available.
I'm glad you are coming along.

15 MINIs on the rally now. If you don't have a navigator you can do the drive without one. After thinking about it we may have a separate class for non-nav cars. We will send the non-nav cars out in pairs (hopefully you will have radios). You can help each other look for the clues to answer the questions and can have a few minutes at the finish line to write the answers in before turning in your route sheet. That way you can compete a little easier and not just drive the route.

We are adding a class for those with no navigator. I have several signed up with no nav. You should make sure and have a FRS or GMRS radio for this. We will send two no-nav cars out together to help each other. The driving part will be easy, just like driving instruction, nothing tricky. The disadvantage with no navigator will be answering the clue questions. You would be competing against other pairs with no navigators. We also may be able to find a navigator as time draws near. Problem is everbody wants to drive. This class is a solution for that......and should be fun
Go ahead and sign up. It is a nice drive anyway

Your entry brings us up to 25 cars. I am glad you are joining us. I drove the route today to double check several things. The day was absolutely stunning and the trees and flowers are blooming beautifully.
