I've been pondering having my lights tinted or smoked. I've seen a couple different options of smoked lenses, and one tinting kit. Don't know much about the do-it-yourself method,.........being if it's possible to spray the lenses, or go to a local tint shop to do it rather than buy a kit. I've been mainly wanting to do the tail lights, but have been questioning the side signals, headlights, and side fender marker lights. Anyone have any suggestions or links to kits of this nature, or methods of doing it myself? Any pics would be awesome as well. Thanx in advance for any help.
Cheers,

I've done both the rear lights and the side marker lights w/ the smoked film from Lamin-x....

The side ones were a snap.... 5 miutes top.... easy install.
(I've posted pics already... you'll find em if you do a search)

The rear ones were a bear... IMO....
They look OK... but not as nice as I would like...
(I'll post pic's as soon as I can take some)
(Koolmini has em on his MCS if you do a search)

Peace,
D

I've done a couple of searches prior to my original post, but only came up with a couple threads with aftermarket smoked lenses, and someone who tinted out their lights with a kit from someplace that I can't remember right now. So I was maybe hoping that there was a group of members or someone since then that has found something or has done something else. I'll try an advanced search with different wording. Thanx.
Cheers,

I think there was also someone (Sugar/Noaffiliation) who had someone paint a thin coat of black on the inside of the brake light cover. That was really nice as it didn't look too dark. I think the kits that are sold, although really nice, are also really dark....someone like me with a black MINI would just be asking for a ticket.

If you come up with an original idea, share it with us!

Yes....I as well was pondering the idea of having the insides of the lenses lightly painted. The one tinting kit that I saw on the net, was a little too dark for my taste. I just want them to be lightly smoked-looking. I was also thinking of going down to a local tint shop to have them done with a light tint. But am still looking out to see what's out there and any opinions, pics, links, etc that others may have. Thanx for the replies. Keep 'em comin'.
Cheers,

$10/can, tint spray paint. I f'ed up a few times, but it washes right off when it's wet. Results came out great IMHO...

Nice photo skills zamirz. Did you take them out to spray? Or did you just carefully mask everything?

Hey there Zamirz, just a few questions. Do you have pics on what you tinted? What lights did you tint out? And if you don't wash it off while it's wet, what'll take it off? Any overlap spray, or other problems experienced with that? Spray on the inside of the lense I'm guessing, yes? Thanx for your help.
Cheers,

My lights were coated with a clear coat/black paint mixture. It gives it the nice glossy look, so it matches the paint on my fenders.

Nice lights KoolMini. But almost too dark for my taste. How did you go about doing that? With a tinting kit, do-it-yourself tint, or paint?
Cheers,

Rally, I took them out. Real easy to do once you take the wheels off, they're attached with cheap metal clips, takes a screwdriver and some careful prying to get 'em out.

MadMan, check your PMs......sorry for not getting back to you earlier in the thread.
