So i recently changed out my fr axle because the cv joint went. It was driving fine for about 2 hours, now when i downshift,let off gas i get a thump from the front right side of the car. It is not consistant its just one thump or knock noise and it doesnt do it if im accelerating. I have no idea what it is but if anybody can help me diagnose that would be great. This is just so frustrating one problem after another with this car.

 

Sounds like a control arm bushing...

Go out and kick your tire from the front and see how much it moves

 

I had a thump coming from the front end after having the front axles out that I traced to the STABILIZER LINK. One of the ball-joints on the thing had worn and was thunking as the load changed. My guess is that it was ok prior to removal but when I put it back on the original orientation was disturbed and it thunked. I replaced it and the problem was gone.
