I was over at the MINIUSA site checking my order status, and noticed my car is listed as having the "Auto Dipping Mirror" along with the rain sensor. So, I'm trying to figure out what an auto dipping mirror does.

Dunk my donuts into my coffee cup?
Dangle my tea bag whilst I'm brewing my cuppa?
Must be something like the MFSW, so I don't have to take my hands off the steering wheel.

Any ideas?

Shelly

The auto-dipping mirror "dims" the mirror automatically. This is
very useful for when someone with a tall vehicle is behind you.
It automatically disables during the day or when reversing...

Overall I'm satisfied with. Only complain is you can't turn it
off

The dimming mirror and rain sensor are a part of a package...

motor on!

It automatically darkens your rear view mirror at night to reduce the glare of hightlights from behind. Normally you would flick the devicce on the rear view mirror manually.

Also, when you put the car in reverse, it resets the mirror.

According to the Mito WWW site (I think they are the OEM for Mini dimming mirrors?)
"reduces headlight glare and dazzle"... Some cars are super-nifty and have them
on the outside mirrors. but not on the mini...

Most of the BMWs have this feature - when you put the car in reverse the drivers side mirror dips toward the ground so you can see the pavement.
works really well.

Shelly

Is it aluminum or aluminium? Color or colour? Dimming or dipping?

We are two distinct cultures, separated by a common language.

Mine didn't come with that...having bought used, I didn't choose my options...

but I think you're fortunate to have such a choice!

What are the options for dipping? (donuts...no...scoops ice cream-YES!)

now dim versus dip, well...thats more a matter of how one sees oneself...and the nice thing about this feature is--its automatic! Acting dippy? Feeling kinda dim?blame it on the mirror (oops, oh yeah, who is that behind those foster grants???..)

Goofy this afternoon without any automatic dipping help....

Oh goody! Something else to go along with the blonde factor, and the over 40 factor!
I'm liking this car more and more every day!

It was the Foster Grants reference, wasn't it....I knew when I wrote it some people would go...whaaaa?

you are gonna love it most when you get it--for this, "half the fun is in the planning" does NOT apply...you'll have too much fun when it comes! just keeps me grinning... cheers, Jenni
