If you can get the extended warrantee for around $800 it might be worth it. How much work can you get done for $2300? Items like warrantees is where dealers make most of their profits. If they won't sell you one for $800, tell them you'll think about it, they'll come way down.

NOTE! I found that with a lot of extended warranties the price is negotiable (i.e. Manufacturer sets MSRP and you can haggle from there as with other things.)

Additionally, use the old math-class calc. to determine what it's worth to you.

If you think there's a 50% probability you'll have a $2,000 repair, it's worth $1,000 to you. It helps put things in perspective.

My judgment? I only buy them for piece of mind. I figure that most manufacturers know the odds and costs and have done the math to make money on them.

I've bought some stuff, though, that I just don't want to worry about, or that I think will be worth more at re-sale with the warranty.

HTH,

Jeff

I Live in Germany. The Mini is only offerred with a 4 year stateside 2 year European warranty. My dealer states he can get me an extra 2 years for $250. I think that is reasonable. $2300 is a whoop of money. Im not sure if I would put that down on a warranty. I just seems a bit expensive.

Cheers

No offer from my dealer yet... I might, depending on the price... I 'have a guy' that's good and cheap, but I'm not sure i'd let him touch my MINI

Ya kno I don't think you have to buy the xtra warranty from the dealer you bought from.

With my bike I called around and found I could save about half from a dealer in a different state.

make sure the extended warranty is is from either MINI or a large and reputable insurance company. I have friends who bought $2000 extends, and when the dealer closed up, so did the warranty. I have 7 YEAR 200000KM (125000mi) warranty on my toyota truck from toyota. It extends all of the original warranty features, and is backed by the big corp, not a local small fish. I did this becaude the truck needs to work 24/7, and all the parts are $$$$.
