Passenger Airbag Sensor into Driver Seat?

Anyone know whether the passenger side airbag sensor can be transferred over to a driver side seat? 2006 R50, sport seats.

Why?
the sensor is to determine if an adult or child is in the seat, so the airbag in the pax side dash can be triggeted if needed in lower inflation levels or full....
Simply moving the seat sensor would not change how it physically works, even if you do move the wiring.

I actually corrected a typo above where=whether. I have an extra seat and a, considering removing the airbag sensor for future use.

Is there even a sensor in the drivers seat? Why would there be? If the car is running, there's probably a driver in there.

The sensor mat is only for the passenger seat. If you put it in a drivers seat, there is no connector to plug it in.

If you have an extra passenger seat, you can save its sensor mat to use in case the sensor in the your current passenger seat fails. I don't know why you're talking about the drivers seat.

+1
the op sounds kinda confused as to what the sensor does....where they are, etc....
The sensor is just a flexible plastic circurt thinggy glued to the foam....i would not peel it off unless you need too...it has a good chance of failing.
the dual stage airbags, required by law for (this is the important part, check your BUILD DATE) cars build on or after jan 1 2005, works to provide lower inflation rates to the passanger airbag to protect light/small individuals sitting in the passanger set if they are unbelted. The drivers airbag is not dual stage, and the pax one needs the sensor to work right, and not get a light...and for the safety of passangers who sit there.

Sorry! Yes, I had assumed that the driver's seat also had an airbag sensor - I guess not! My car is a 09/06 build and the extra seat I have was built in 05/06, so I assume they both have the same type of sensor... Good to know the driver seat doesn't have one! One less thing to break... Now I'm wondering whether I can retrofit the lumbar adjustmer from a passenger seat into a driver seat

Thanks for all the NAM help!

When the seats are out of the car or not plugged in, DO NOT TURN THE KEY to listen to the radio, or the on postion....doing so will set an airbag light, and a special tool is needed to reset it...NOT AN ADB2 reader....dealers seem to charge about $100.

Good point. Probably best to disconnect the battery altogether (make sure the keys are not in the trunk :-P)
