Are first gen and second gen headrests swapable?

Has anyone swapped out their second generation headrests with first generation headrests? I am considering doing it for greater comfort.

By the way, I also just removed the plastic piece that prevents the back headrest from going down all the way and it was so easy and so worth it. Looks better and improves back view greatly.

As well as letting one put the front seats back with the rears down, without storing the rear headrests elsewhere.

Hey yeah, I bet the lowered seats do fit better. Anyway, reading back on my first post, I don't think that my wording was clear. I am wondering if they would fit if I was to purchase them. Are the post spacings the same?

The later models have little plastic collars that prevent the rear headrests from lowering all the way. Once you remove the collars, you can retract the rests as you can with earlier models. It's apparently due to some sort of safety regulations for rear seat passengers.

Spridget, I like your MG! I used to have a MGBGT that I really loved in spite of its many mechanical issues.

It almost seems like they made those collars on the newer rear seats to be removed. The pins are easily tapped out with a pointy object and a hammer.

Anyone out there know If first gen and second gen headrests can be swapped?

I'd just go to the next local Mini meetup and ask someone to try it.

I know this doesn't answer your question directly - but...

If you, like me, feel that front headrests are too close to the back of your head, you can swap the front headrests with the rear ones. If you aren't too tall, the rear rests will extend high enough to be in the right place, and they are FAR thinner.

I actually bought a second set of rear headrests for this very reason (P/N for carbon black leatherette is: 52207298764).

Might help in the short term!
