Last week I got my black 2009 Mini Cooper S, and I thought the car was Astro Black Metallic. That was the listing at the dealer, and there were mirror caps in the rear footwell with a label stating that color (the car has Black Jack mirror caps presently). Today, looking through the 2009 brochure, the only shade of black listed is Midnight Black. Is that the same thing? Is the paint color listed somewhere on the car itself that I can check?

 

open the hood. On the passenger side there will be a sticker listing the color

 

The difference in those two colors is like night and day. Asto black has a blue hue to it and in some light, it looks very blue. Midnight black is true black.

Anyone who has seen either of these colors in person could tell you in about two seconds which one you have.

From memory, I believe Astro Black was on the 09s.

It is Astro, as I thought as I'd noticed the blue cast to the color as well (like Carbon Black on BMWs). In fact, when I was shopping it seemed a lot of dealers were mistakenly listing Astro Black Metallic as Dark Blue.

Odd that it's not listed in the catalog, though.
